• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

Tyler's #VanLife on 37s Four Wheel Camper Build & Tacoma3G.com Shenanigans

We were put on the list for another event today, so here’s my updated schedule. Still looking forward to meeting some T3G peeps!

I'd feel like a boob showing up with a trailer to an overlanding expo. Haha! Maybe once the truck is in featherlander gear.

Hey, there’s a lot of trailers at these things actually. They’re very popular.

@Tyler, Just booked MTN WEST. See you there (SAT and SUN).
Hell yes!

As I said in our message (for anyone else),

During the event I’ll make sure you can easily find us. I won’t be able to take my truck out of the event to go camping, but I’ll definitely be able to walk around the event and chat and such.

this post is me testing something...

I use firestone air bags which are good up to 3,000 lb.

Gonna spend the day at a beach tomorrow, for Paige’s birthday. @RevN3 - any suggestions for the beaches / beach towns in this screenshot:

I used to work at Fort Stevens. Lots to explore there. It's up past Hammond. Seaside is just a basic tourist beach town. Cannon Beach is a snooty beach town but it also home to Indian Beach (In Ecola State Park) where i surfed as a teenager and pizza a' fetta my favorite place for pizza. Oswald West State Park is another place I surfed and one of the prettiest places on the coast. Parking lot gets crowded though. That's probably a whole day or more right there. Tillamook is a depressing swamp that smells like cow shit but it does have a nice ice cream factory and a massive blimp hanger with an air museum inside. To the west of it is my favorite hidden coast town Oceanside which is best at low tide where you can walk through a tunnel to the beach.

@RevN3 we have a couple weeks until the expo in Bend. We’re probably gonna hop around in the highlighted area in the screenshot. It looks to me like there’s plenty of pretty places for camping/4x4 along the coast of this area/national forests.

Most of the "free" costal places are just pullouts and the legality of camping there is often in question. People may knock on your door and tell you to leave. These people may or may not have the authority to do so. The Siuslaw National forest is DENSE so it can be difficult to even find a pull out as shown here:

This area is a good place to go but you can't get to the top of the mountain anymore because they are building another relay tower right now:

IMHO the best dispersed camping spot in that area is in this video:

I can get you directions and coordinates, it's just north of Reedsport. It's a pretty lawless place though. Sometimes that's not a problem, sometimes it can be sketch. Same story here:

I've found iOverlander to be pretty hit or miss around here, mostly miss. Not so much "campspots" as "places you can get just off the road and get a few hours of sleep before moving on" if that makes sense. I'll share any spots I have with you though.

EDIT: Holy crap, I just wanted links to the youtube not the videos themselves! Ugh, my post is a mess.

Wow, thank you! This is good stuff that I’ll take the time to read through tonight. Your post isn’t a mess - the videos will be helpful too.

Do you recommend a modded-friendly Toyota service center? I only need routine maintenance but I bet my tie rods are shot too.

I don't really have a place, I have a friend who I help do all the work on the truck. I can tell you NOT to go to Litha Toyota in Springfield as they are straight up crooks. Kendall in Eugene is okay but not respectful of your time. For recommendations I'd go with this group if you've got facebook, best local Tacoma source: PNW Tacoma Club | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PNWTacomaClub)

Idk if you’ll be familiar with this road, but last night this is where we stayed. It was nice and we woke up to a moist and lush (lol) rainforest. This road goes FOREVER so we might go back and just keep driving it for our next spot.
