Tyler's #VanLife on 37s Four Wheel Camper Build & Tacoma3G.com Shenanigans

Since December we've been on a road life hiatus due to some medical things we both had to take care of. Well, guess what... this week we're hitting the road again, finally! We'll be in the northeast for a while, Maine especially. But starting in June and throughout most of the summer, we have some west coast events to be at, including all of the Overland Expos to show our truck for Four Wheel Campers.
Awesome. Have fun, enjoy some good adventures.

I'm seriously jealous that ya'll can do that. Livin' the life!
I’m thankful that we can do this but it does come at the cost of chronic back pain for life (we’re able to do this because I get disability money from the military).

I apologize for being insensitive. I know how people's lives look different from the outside. I'm glad you two are able to hit the road again!

Are you going to be at this one? Overland Expo Pacific Northwest 2022 Announced | Details, Ticket Prices - Overland Expo® (https://www.overlandexpo.com/compass/overland-expo-heads-to-the-pacific-northwest-with-new-fourth-annual-event/)

If so, I'll see you there!

Not insensitive at all!

I just like to be clear about how we’re able to live on the road because neither of us understand how so many other people are also doing it in the last few years. Like, a lot of them work online - fine. But it does seem like a lot of them are getting by solely on little influencer deals here and there. And if they have a nice rig, the rig costs a little buck… if that makes sense. On the other hand, if they have a crappy bus/van/etc., it would presumably have occasional mechanical issues, which also costs.

I guess I’m just thinking out loud, lol.

We've had poor cell service all week but we've been staying in beautiful spots in NY. Here's a picture of our spot last night (if it uploads).

Us too! I was surprised to hear they added another new location a year(?) after they added the mountain location.
That event is in my backyard as well, however with a couple of big trips planned and the Teamsters concrete strike here in King County I am afraid I will be missing out on this one!?!?

Does your dad have one at his place?
We've got a couple ponds nearby, but they're all private. Three decently sized lakes a couple towns over, but only big enough for canoes and such. We've got a small creek that runs through our woods, that's about it lmao

Spent about a week in upstate NY, then some time in NJ forests, then some forests in VA, which is where we are currently. Lots of beautiful spots - all free. Only thing is I haven’t had much phone service so I haven’t been able to do much in that regard.

Do you have more info on what this means in the real world? I’d love to try Starlink if it becomes a realistic option for us.

So, basically, you get starlink "installed" at your home address, but you can install it on your camper at that address. I believe the antenna/dish is movable as well. Anyway, there's a new option for roaming that can be enable which essentially means that once the dish establishes a connection, you can literally drive and the dish will stay connected, changing satellites as needed. This also means that when you turn it on it will be allowed to connect to any satellite available. Internet no matter where you are in the USA!

The hardest part is availability, but I'm sure more will be opening up moving into 2023.

It's cool that we are moving in this direction. One day, this will probably function like regular 5G/WiFi. Unfortunately, I don't think having the dish on the truck would be practical for us because of some of the trails we go through.

I believe you can put it away and bring it out as necessary! It's not like a traditional dish since it's able to be moved.

Well. Like most things we do, this fan upgrade did not go well so far. Yesterday, we installed the second one. We tested it before install and it worked. Tested it again after install and it worked. About 20 minutes later we turned it on again because it got hot out, and it would appear it short-circuited. If connected to power (which it is), it stays on at high speed and none of the buttons or remote will control it. So I had to cut the wires to make it stop and I’m probably going to need to replace its circuit board when customer service gets back to me. 🙃
