• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    2020 Base Model Pricing

I'm going to be a bit bummed if I'm forced into a moonroof with the premium package, I want a bit more than half the stuff in there. The LED lights seem reasonable.

    2020 Base Model Pricing

Toyota has release their 2020 pricing here: https://pressroom.toyota.com/2019-2020-toyota-full-line-pricing/ Pro goes up about $1k, not huge price increases among other models although it sounds like the premium package with all the new gadgets is going to be very pricey on the 2020s. Hoping...

When do the 2020 Tacomas Arrive At Dealerships?

I’ve heard mid September first ones will start arriving with beginning of October them becoming a common place.

    Thatbluecollaredtaco

Looks great you’ve done a lot to it. Cav is one of those colors which has grown on me a ton and is now one of my top choices if it’s still offered for the 2020s

    More power

    Good to know
  8. tomtaylz

    More power

How fast are the tunes normally out of beta? I’m guessing it’ll technically do some warranty voiding if Toyota wanted to play that game?

Mr. and Mrs. Nobody's Quicksand DCLB

Jealous! I’m vehicle-less right now and getting only a little stir-crazy.

Is it possible to hook up windoors to a remote unlock?

I’ve seen this a couple of places. My impression is that it is for the frameless style windows which had the option from the factory of being remote. Not 100% sure though. When I get the cap I’ll need to look to better understand what happens when the lock unlocks/locks. Maybe I’ll see if I can...
  11. tomtaylz

Is it possible to hook up windoors to a remote unlock?

Yep unfortunately, it's the same as the regular leer 100R - I'd just feel a lot more safe with the weight rating especially with me considering a hard shell RTT and 270 awning which both are on the heavier side. I may have to play around with actuators :D
  12. tomtaylz

Is it possible to hook up windoors to a remote unlock?

I'm curious if anyone has tried hooking up windoors or other traditional 'T' locks to the tailgate Pop N Lock to have them unlock by remote? I'm sure there is a bit more complexity on how these 'T' locks work but interested if anyone has some sort of solution that they know works. I'm looking...

Molle Panel e-bike hands out build.

Nice Build, how do you like the Alu-Cab tent & Awning? Looks like a solid quick setup, although definitely spendy. Edit: my bad on asking the question twice, was trying to get my other post deleted.

SoCal FS: 2016 TACOMA TRD-OR Super overland AF build. All the trinkets!

Nice Build, a bit unrelated as the truck is out of my budget but how do you like the Alu-Cab tent & Awning?

    Entune/CarPlay ios13 and EnTune

I'm guessing it might be due to iOS13's AVRCP 1.6 support which includes album art over bluetooth. As I'm sure you know - iOS 13 is still in beta right now so it's highly possible that changes might come to either the iOS release, updates for EnTune, or both. I would probably let Toyota...

Best roof racks and roof top tents?

Agreed, @SDtaco setup would work awesome. It's basically what my long term goals are also just with a separate cap and hardshell setup (which I loose access to the tent from the bed/ability to stand up) to keep the stock look.
  18. tomtaylz

Best roof racks and roof top tents?

Hadn't seen this before, its kind of a cool hybrid between hard and soft RTTs
  19. tomtaylz

Best roof racks and roof top tents?

Interesting to see different approaches. Those all in one camper setups are nice, they’re just not for me in the looks department I’m early in the planning stages but I’m considering: ARE CX HD cap w/ windoors Aluminum based hard shell tent. Awning I like the HD cap from ARE because while...

Love it, looks stock and I keep drooling over those 35s.

    3rd gen Tacoma Black Hole

Isn't there solutions where there is a piece of fabric that is sold to go in that gap? EDIT: google gave me this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BYH6C1E/?tag=tacoma3g-20 never used it so can't speak to quality
  22. tomtaylz

Why did you choose the Tacoma?

Reviving an old thread. Did anyone shop around with the other midsize trucks? What was the selling factor of the Tacoma for you? (Seems a common reliability/resale theme)
  23. tomtaylz

How was that much driving on the 35s? They really fit the DCLB

    Jeep LJR build thread

Sold the Jeep yesterday, it sold within a week of listing with someone flying in to get it. I'll miss it a bit, but looking to get a taco around the end of the year. With some time car-less I'm looking at all my options, but the taco is the one to beat. (And what I'm likely getting)
  25. tomtaylz

Why do so many people prefer 4 doors vs Access cab?

I think it’s all what you plan on using the truck for. For my use, a 4 door is a no brainer, more in cab storage and being able to have passengers/my dog in the back. I have a two door Jeep and while it looks better than the 4drs, there’s plenty of times it’s a pain in the ass. While I don’t...

Safe travels with your move. You just have to roll with the punches with a move that big, I've moved around the country a few times as I am sure you have also and it's rare that everything goes to plan.

    $100000 Jeep Gladiator

They seem okay but expensive even without the markups. I think they need at least 37's to not look goofy from profile and to give it some better angles for off roading but then you're driving a Jeep with 37s and the sacrifices that come with that big of a tire, which is far from ideal. I have a...

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

To unspool your winch for instance you need to put the lever normally on the right into neutral, also a lot of external remotes need to plug in, unless you wire in cab winch controls. I guess it dependable on the situation, personally I want winch controls easily accessible, if I’m in a tough...

Yours is cavalry blue right? I’ll be sure to follow, I love the color without a camp shell, but haven’t seen many with it. Curious how it looks in different lights - the color changes so much - and if it feels too blue haha Edit: is it different than the pro Calvary blue?

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

Not sure if someone answered this, but I always remove the boots from shocks, often times they trap in the dirt they’re trying to keep out. Most pistons for shocks are self cleaning, and keeping the crap out to begin with helps.

I rented a pro for the weekend..

I used Turo which is like AirBnB for vehicles. It was a bit spendy but I thought it was important to try it out before spending a whole lot of money. I loved it, didn’t want to give it back. The owner said most people who rented his truck were taking them on a test drive before buying -...

I rented a pro for the weekend..

So as I’ve mentioned before I currently have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler and looking to buy a 2020 Tacoma around the end of year. I rented a 17’ pro for the weekend getaway to Lake Tahoe. Compared to the Jeep it’s road manners are so much better, it is so much smoother and more pleasant to drive. I...

    DECKED Storage System

Is there anyway to lock the draws open fully extended, so they don’t slide shut, if that makes sense? I live on a pretty steep downhill grade, so wondering if I would be fighting with it to unload gear.

    Sound deadening Tacoma part 2

Just skimmed your video, I'll have to watch it in full later, definitely seems like a lot of work. Did you take any Db readings before and after?

    Dual Battery or Group 31?

That being said, do you need dual? Probably not. I have a dual arb compressor, winch and lights hooked up on my Jeep on a lot smaller battery. The thing to note is the winch will barley be used, the compressor used sparingly, so then it’s really LED lights which draw not much power. Now if you...
  49. tomtaylz

    Dual Battery or Group 31?

I like the idea of dual batteries for several reasons, 1. It’ll scale with your truck, if you add more stuff than you have now you won’t be coming back to this conversation in a year, the fact you’re nervous now will likely mean you are going to be maxing the battery at some point 2. I like...

    Jeep LJR build thread

Yeah the driving position/feeling cramped and the transmission is what I’m most worried about for Tacoma’s. I’m about 6’1”. The 2020s adjustable seat should help though too, I know little adjustments can make a big difference.
  51. tomtaylz

    Jeep LJR build thread

Also, I’m renting a 17 Pro this weekend from Turo for a get away to Tahoe, so I’ll get some time behind the wheel and should know better if it works for me.
  52. tomtaylz

    Jeep LJR build thread

Yeah that’s part of the reason the Tacoma’s appeal to me so much, already planning in my head my future build which will be more overland focused. I found my self doing a lot more camping and just need a rig to get to cool spots other people can’t, I don’t find myself doing intense crawling...

    Jeep LJR build thread

Thanks and all good on the part 4! Hah just going through my camera roll, it is a nice Jeep, living in the city I really can’t have more than one vehicle though and I think all around the taco will do a lot more what I need it to do.

    Jeep LJR build thread

Basically done building at this point, fully armored underneath, suspension all redone, regeared. I also sound dampened the whole tub, to help with long trips in a loud brick. Just now chasing small issues. Here’s a photo dump.

    Jeep LJR build thread

Save for part two So continuing on. I started a oil pan skid, “tummy tuck” and sliders all in a rush before Moab. You’ll notice in this picture two sliders of the same side. Whoops. Slider on one side! Next for upgraded brakes before going 35s. Went with Blaine’s BMB. Some of the best...

    Jeep LJR build thread

Selling this LJR to buy a taco around the end of the year, but thought it’d be fun to go through some build stages. It’s a 05 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, the Unlimited being the longer wheel base model from the TJ which they only sold for three years, so it’s a bit rare. I’ve done all the work...

    ARB compressor isn't working!

Happens to the best of us! Once I was wondering why my compressor was constantly running and went through debugging steps convinced it was broken and unplugged it so it didn’t drain my battery, turned out I had accidentally hit the switch at some point and it was on. ?‍♂️

I think I found a bug with the new alerts, I can’t find a way to remove the badge that my thread was moved. I tried clicking on it and it doesn’t go away.
  61. tomtaylz

What bed drawer system do you have?

Thanks! I really want to find someone with the ARB system and get an impression, doesn’t seem many people run them but they seem to have some nice features, otherwise I may end up with decked.

Anyone found any interior fire extinguisher solutions they like?

Just keep in mind, a lot of forces are play in an accident. The last thing you want is a heavy fire extinguisher coming loose anywhere near your head. In front of the front seat is a great spot to get to it quickly. Also I recommend a full sized, no one when putting out a car fire wished they...

T3G Feedback and questions about Tacoma3G.com - How can our community and website be better?

So new here, but I like the idea of T3G keeping separate. For Jeeps I'm on a TJ specific forum and it is a lot better than any larger jeep forum and a great source for getting information and a really good community (We had a large group of forum members who had never met all go to Moab this...

    ARB compressor isn't working!

x2, I have diagnosed some compressor issues with their tech support, they do it over email also. They even sent my friend parts to fix his compressor.
  67. tomtaylz

What bed drawer system do you have?

That’s one thing I’m nervous about too with decked, am I correct in assuming the side space is inaccessible (Watching your video it looks like there there is an ammo can amount of space). The draws look a little short too as they don't go out all the way. Lastly, do the draws lock open (if you...

What bed drawer system do you have?

I've been doing some research into bed drawers, mainly the ARB, Goose Gear, Decked and TruckVault. Of course there is always homemade too. What do you guys run? What do you like about it, what not so much? Pictures are a plus! From the looks of things I like the ARB the most so far, but...

Mr. and Mrs. Nobody's Quicksand DCLB

So first off, I love your build, lots of inspiration here. I like your camper a lot, as much as I like the aesthetics of some others a bit better, I recognize how the windoors would be extremely useful. [Picture Request] 33" Tires - What's your lift height

I'll probably end up with 33" tires, I have 35's right now on my jeep and know how complex it can be to get up to this size, most of the people I wheel with have 33's. Being new to Tacomas, I was wondering who is running 33's (or metric equivalent) and what your suspension setup looks like to...

It goes through Big Sur, a pretty easy trail. Lots of good ridgeline camping up the fire roads there. I’ve gone a fair bit around Mendocino National Forest but it is a fair trek out there and some trails can be pinstripy, I have friends up there so drive that way often. Southern MNF and cow...

New - no truck yet - member

Replacing it, as much as id like to keep it around for more sporty off road trips, being in the city space is a premium and I can’t own two vehicles (one of the reasons for the truck too, it’ll be more utilitarian in general)
