• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Truck looks better with the sliders!!

Excuse my dumb ?, The air intake, to get some more power from stock?

OK, I feel really stupid now. I’m going to crawl back into my hole and stay there. :censored:
Haha it's all good

It does add a bit more power at higher RPMs, but primarily just gives it a throaty growl, and, most importantly, better throttle response. It's also got an easily serviceable filter.

Thanks! Still learning so that helps!
These engines need everything they can get. Looks good Josh!

Thanks! After driving it last night and again to work this morning in heavy traffic with lots of shifting, I can say for certain that it has noticeably better response when I blip the peddle for downshifts now, and it seems to have really smoothed out the "stagy" feeling under acceleration. My truck in particular has horrible tip-in, which is when you hit the gas and it does nothing for the first inch or so of peddle travel and in some cases the computer is, for example, only giving you 35% throttle when you're really on the gas 80%, and gradually ramps up to 50%, 60%, etc. and you can actually feel it happening... but the intake seems to have smoothed out that feeling significantly so it was driving more linearly, which is huge to me. I hate all the safety nannies on this truck and the less I notice they're there, the better!

It is loud, louder than the AFE on the last truck, but under normal conditions it sounds great, just a low growl. At WOT over 4,500 RPM, it's kind of like your head is inside a tuba. There's a resonance that rattles everything inside the truck... and inside your head.

I'm definitely happy with it, but that's not to say the computer isn't still learning to adjust to the new intake, and may change how it drives over time.

Head stuck in a tuba....classic.

I'll be a happy camper if we can get that bumper on tonight! I looked over the instructions and it seems really straightforward and it's a lot lighter than I was expecting so it shouldn't take long at all. There is some adjustability built in to the design so just getting it lined up properly will probably take the longest.

@JerryTaco2.0 I just ordered the replacement UCA bolt. It was actually cheaper on Amazon than Riverview or Big Two wanted to sell it for.

Oh yeah, we should be able to get it done pretty quick.

Famous last words to our wives. It will probably take us forever now and they will be pissed and bugging us about what is taking so long.

How are you going to mount that thing? Looks interesting.

That shit looks so God damn amazing!

Man I can’t wait for my front and rear to get here in September. Too bad I won’t be in as to install it

Yeahhhhhh the install didn't exactly go as planned, and the bumper is going on Jeremy's truck, not mine :ROFLMAO:

What happened?
It turns out this bumper just isn't what I need. It relies on the hitch receiver for structural support and integrity... meaning you can't remove the hitch, and it has little strength on its own. Getting rid of the receiver and increasing ground clearance was half the point, adding strength and protection was the other half. This bumper really does none of that for me, so it's going on @Man Of Steel TRD's truck instead and I'm shifting gears.

Worked out for me and my pavement pounder but not so much Josh. I don't care about extra clearance. Just want to be cool.

High clearance Pelfreybilt!
