• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    Powered Subwoofer Install

I spliced the rear speaker wires to ad my underseat 8"powered Sub. Love it. It's not killer bass, but it's much better bass than what was lacking.

    Pre-Purchase Question Leveling Kit

2" up front with 1" rear block is what the OEM TRD lift consists of. 1" up front without a lift in the rear will level your Taco perfectly. Best bang for buck are the Bilstein 5100's up front with stock coils (as per Bilstein recommendations).
  3. TITS

    Billstein/ReadyLift 3" 6112s - thoughts?

Very happy with my 5100s set @ 2" max setting. Much bigger shocks than the OEM Off Road Blistein shocks. Stuck with the OEM coils as per Bilstein recommendation. No regrets.

Help! 6in lift on stock wheels

A 6" lift will bring you soooo many problems. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot poll, unless I was prepared to throw a whole bunch of money into it. Good luck my friend.
  5. TITS

TRD off road vs TRD pro

Price difference is the reason. You can put better suspension on an Off Road for much , much, much cheaper than the price of the Pro. Shocks, hood scoop & Leather are the only differences....

Pizza Cutter MT Shootout - Officially Over. No Rubbing!

Damn, I so want a 33", but in a A/T, not a M/T. So far I could get a 255/80/17 Wildpeak A/T, but would need to purchase 17" rims. Too bad they dont make them in a 255/85/16

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Last week we got almost 20". I have no weight in the back, and she bucked like a wild horse to get going, but my Duratracs got me through anything I threw at them. Easy peasy! That much snow, and cars and some SUVs were going nowhere.
  13. TITS

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Sweet! Imagine how much more fun you'd have with better tires. (y)

Maintenance Any EFFECTIVE ways to prevent RODENT damage or infestation on the Tacoma

I used dryer sheets & moth balls when I stored a car in the garage. Unfortunately not much help for cars parked outside.

First time driving in the snow with the Taco

You guys would laugh at my old steel traction boards. Picked them off the curb that someone was throwing away. Must take a pic some day.
  16. TITS

    What Would You Do?

Steelies is a great choice. But people are selling the OEM rims pretty cheap too. I'd buy 4, as you know how easy it is to damage a rim off roading, and 2 spares couldn't hurt.
  17. TITS

    TRD Lift kit

255/85/16 or 255/80/17 Pizza Cutters are your answer. That's my next tire, but still love my 265/75/16 Duratracs (C Load).
  18. TITS

First time driving in the snow with the Taco

Good learning experience, but your inexperience and lousy tires came into play. 4low and definitely Crawl control would have walked you right out of that. Keep on trucking!
  19. TITS

    TRD Lift kit

I've got the 1" block and it rides like stock. If it's good enough for Toyota warranty, it's good enough for me. If I was to carry stuff in the back, I would have probably gone with a AAL, or possibly airbags. But, I have the Bilstein 5100 lift, not the TRD lift.
  20. TITS

Largest with 0 offset and no lift?

Gonna go with a 255/80/17 tire on my O.R. (as I cant find a 255/85/16 that suits my needs). Does anyone know if the black 17" OEM TRD rims offset will cause rubbing? Thought I heard they are a +25 offset, but dont quote me. Also have a 2/1" Lift. Could that also change things??

  25. TITS

    New to me, TRD Sport

The Sport suspension isn't off Road worthy. Your bigger 5100's blow away the Sport Hitachi shocks The 2" lifted 5100s on my Off Road rides like stock, but they were Bilstein (4600) shocks to begin with.

New guy looking for lift advice, yes another one of these threads!

You could just level the Taco with a 1" lift in the front. Will still look lifted compared to stock. Personally, I wouldn't replace the coils, or add a .5'' strut spacer, as that could have been part of the problem, unless you are planning to add weight to the truck (eg, RTT, winches, truck...

I dont understand bonifacio. Did you lift the 5100s up to 2"? Is it because of the 887 coils over the stock coils?

Reference: Replacing Front and Rear Suspension

My shop did the 2" 5100s up front and an alignment. No rubbing with 265/75/16 Duratracs. I feel confident that when I go to a 33" pizza cutter tire, I will not have any rubbing or cutting to do. Still on stock coils as per Bilstein recommendations. With the 1" rear blocks, my truck still...

Canuckia White AC From The Great White North

Great pics Canuckia! Are those the stock Kevlar tires?. I hated those stock Kevlar "Highway Tires' that came on my Taco. My 265/75/16 Duratracs have been awesome so far. The 3 peak snow designation gave me enough confidence to sell off my dedicated winter tire package. No regrets......
  48. TITS

In all honestly, I'd replace that spacer lift asap. Bilstein 5100 is a great value lift. And you can keep the stock coils. Good luck [NjB]

Maintenance When installing a lift on a 3rd gen

The answer is a 2/1" lift. That's why Toyota can give you a warranty with their OEM TRD lift..... Although,........ I've seen dealerships with 3/2" spacer lifts. Just not sure what warranty they give it.
  50. TITS

    First Time Tacoma Owner

Replacing the bearing is not going to fix your issue. It will just happen again. Are you 100% that is the issue? Might I assume you have a spacer lift?? is it more than 2"??? I know a reliable shop in Ottawa, if your ever cruising down the 401

    Does Size Matter?!

Your wife tells me the same thing...... ;)
  52. TITS

Which suspension are you running & why?

I was very content with my OEM Off Road Bilstein shocks, but wanted a small Lift. So I settled on 5100's up front, and a 1" block in the rear. Because the 5100's in the rear dont offer a Lift, I kept my stock OEM OR rear shocks. Also kept the OEM stock coils (as per Bilstein's recommendation)...

    Does Size Matter?!

Propane tanks are still a major requirement, but solar panels and electric stoves/lighting are the newest exciting adventure. Starting to see them in new builds. Renewable system, that won't leave you "out of gas". Sorry Rago, not trying to sound like I'm trolling your propane thread.
  56. TITS

    New to this stuff

You can fit 33" without cutting, if you go 255/85/16 or 255/80/17 pizza cutters. Unfortunately not a lot of tire choices in those sizes. The 2" lift will help. I love my 32" 265/75/16 Duratracs, but will go 33" pizza cutter next time around.

    OFF ROAD Crawl Control Feature

I run through all my 4wd goodies every once in awhile just to know my Taco. I've activated the C.C. several times, but hadn't got stuck enough to need it. Still nice to know I have it. Even activate my 4hi in rainy situations. Rear end doesn't slip out like in 2wd, and the much improved...
  58. TITS

what else is needed to level ??

I did the 2/1" 5100s. 2" in the front, and a 1" block in the rear. This is basically the OEM TRD lift. Kept the factory OR springs (as recommended by Bilstein) and factory bump stops. Only extra weight I have in the rear is my steel bumper. In the front I just have a Bullbar.

I chose the tri-fold soft top for convenience & weight. Can take it off in a jiffy, if I need to throw something in the box. Even fits in the back seat, if I have to. Ironically, the wife wants to get one of these Toppers. I really don't have a need for one, but love the idea.

Love my BA rear bumper. Only problem is, it has surface rust that started very early. Mostly from the hardware. Rustpainted the hardware and area, and it looks good now. I considered rust painting the whole bumper before I installed it, but wouldn't have guessed about the hardware rusting. Tits
