• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    Future for Pelfreybilt

Dude, I know it sucked for the people who lost money on parts for their trucks but I was genuinely worried about you because I knew your life was anchored to that ship. Hope all works out for you.

That’s where I’m at. I definitely have heard the name Madrigal before but I can’t put a name to the face though. I did just come off of duty so my brain isn’t working at 100 percent right now.

Sorry dude! I’m a Chief at one of the entry level schools so these kids keep my busy anyway. I don’t get a lot of free time lol. I may have seen the tanks dude but there are a few nice Tacos out here.

Navy Fed is awesome. I had 12k charged to my credit card by someone in Texas who stole my identity and went on a Walmart shopping spree when I was a broke LCpl with a family and they took care of me.

    Future for Pelfreybilt

I fell bad for y’all who have money tied up in this. I came “this” close to buying some sliders from them a couple months ago but decided to dump the money instead in my road bike. Seemed like a questionable decision a month ago, but anymore.

Icon stage 2 vs Fox 2.5 lift kits

For long travel I would go King. Icon specializes in vehicle specific stock replacements. King specializes in race shocks.
  14. BlueFalconActual

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

What leaf pack did you get? You may just be too high in the rear. These trucks can only go like 2.5 inches up front before problems start to happen. You can run spacers, but then it kind of negates the $ you spent on premium suspension unless you never plan to off-road it and just want the truck...
  15. BlueFalconActual

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

Thats odd. My coil overs (Icon 2.5's) were bolted on without even touching the pre load and it came out perfectly level. If I cranked on the pre-load, it would have been way too high in the front.
  16. BlueFalconActual

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

I honestly haven’t seen many 18” wheels on these trucks which kind of tells me that it might not work. I’m a fan of the “more tire less wheel” club with trucks but to each their own.

Icon stage 2 vs Fox 2.5 lift kits

Both manufacturers make good stuff. Where are you located? I only ask because Fox has a much larger dealer footprint. I have Icon with resis on all 4 corners because it fit my needs the best. Resis allow the shock to work more efficiently and stay cooler longer. I don’t do anything hard core...
  20. BlueFalconActual

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

“Better” is a matter of opinion. Both make quality products. The biggest difference between them is Icon uses semi-digressive valving whereas Fox uses progressive. A lot of dudes here, including myself, have Icons and they have been awesome.

My wife’s car is a 2018 Accord that I picked up a few weeks ago. I honestly put more miles on my other toy, which is a 2017 Trek Edmonda. Most people don’t understand road bikes, especially the prices the good ones command, but I absolutely love them.

    Suspension choices

A big thing that people don’t talk about is to make sure you keep it within YOUR budget. Let’s be honest, we all come from different economic backgrounds and basing your build off of what other people do to their trucks is a sure fire way to be unhappy.
  34. BlueFalconActual

    Suspension choices

I’m also a fan of Icon’s. They get a lot of unwarranted hate in other forums because mouth breathers install incorrectly and then blame the manufacturer for their mistake. Icon has been nothing but stellar and helpful to me. I have their 2.5 w/resis in the front and 2.0 w/resis in the back. For...
  35. BlueFalconActual

    Suspension choices

A lot will depend on your idea of what off-roading is. High speed desert runs? Slow rock crawling? Fire roads? When it comes down to it though, ANYTHING is better than a spacer lift IMO. Spacer lifts are the padded bra of suspension.

Just because it has the same thread pitch it doesn’t mean it will work. The OEM alloy wheels use a flat or mag type seat lug nut whereas the steelies use a conical seat. The alloy OEM lugs do have a conical seat at the tip of the nut so you can use the steel spare without any issues. Using a...
  39. BlueFalconActual

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

Correct. Lugs that came with alloy wheels will work on steelies (or else you couldn’t use the spare) but you can’t use lugs that came on steel wheels on alloys.

    Sliders

@Pelfreybilt, in your opinion, should I get a set of sliders or better skids first? I honestly could probably go without either since I try to go around any real rocky stuff but I know it's better to have it than need it.

My first was a 2003 single cab Prerunner because it was all I could afford on a PFC with a family's pay. I grew up with them though. I changed mine at 5k and plan on doing it again at 10k and then every 10 thousand after that just so it's on an even number because I'm OCD AF. I used Pennzoil Platinum because I heard it was good stuff and because it was on sale at Walmart.

    Spray on bed liners?

I honestly don't know why the full size trucks don't use composite beds. I abused the crap out of my 2nd gen without any drama. It was weird when I bought my Tundra and had to be careful with the bed so I wouldn't dent it.

    When are UCA’s really needed?

I didn't replace mine when I did my "lift" but that's because I only leveled it out in the front by 1 inch and I was trying to keep the price down because divorces are really expensive. That being said, I plan to replace them down the road because it is the best way to do it.
