• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    Rack suggestions ?

I'm gonna put in my regular plug for Victory 4x4 components. Mounted up quick, does the job, and didnt cost me an arm and a leg.

    Icon leaf pack not RXT

Looking to hear from anyone who has installed this - I've read a few posts from the other forums that mention the included center bolts are not compatible. I also have an AAL from Toytec already installed. Wondering out loud if I need to remove that and the overload spring or not. Added a...

    Spare Tire Mount Ideas

I've actually got a real 285 under there, and I did no hammering. It doesn't fit all the way flush, but its darn close. I worry zero seconds about exhaust heat. It rubs a bit on the two 'brackets' that hang down, but it's up under there tight enough that it's a non-issue. You'll be fine.

    Victory 4x4 Skid Plate installed

I did the front and mid skid from Victory, and they are very solid. I do take off the oil filter access piece before I take it to the dealer for service, only because I dont want them messing with the parts. I liked that they had the parts in stock, they shipped quickly, and their videos are...

    Winter camping

I use an RTT tent liner I picked up on amazon. It's tepui branded, but it fits inside all the small/medium RTT tents that share the identical architecture. I went camping in 20 degree weather and turned on the buddy heater for about 10 minutes. After that the tent was warm all night. I...

For those of you with RTTs with a left or right opening, which do you choose?

I'd do a rear ladder in a heartbeat, but my mid height rack means that I'd always be bending over to get into the truck bed, and since I use the tailgate to prep food, a rear ladder combined with a mid rack would be impractical.

    VIAR on board air solution

Hi everyone. Wanted to post up my viar compressor mounted in the factory bed cubby, and how I ran air lines to each side of the truck. Of course the compressor in a bag with alligator battery connections works absolutely fine - I just wanted to see if I could piece this together after watching...

For those of you with RTTs with a left or right opening, which do you choose?

Driver's side. When I deploy the tent, I let the cover drape down and put up the annex room. The other side has my trasharoo. When I get to a campsite, I like the idea of looking right out the driver's side door window as I envision fire pit location and then I can place the truck exactly...

    Solar Panel usage

Question on solar panel usage. Looking to get a jackery powerbank for a fridge/freezer. For anyone who has powerbank/panels/fridge, do you use the panels to charge the powerbank or your vehicle battery? I'm less interested in USB phone charging potential. Just not sure which power source I...

    Vinyl hood cover

I put this on myself a few years back. I think supdec.com has similar offerings, but I didn't get mine from them. It was very easy with the wet application method. Cuts down on the silver paint glare significantly.

  22. Sbr7

Victory 4x4 bed rack and extras

I'm not sure. Did a trip last weekend and put lots of camping gear up there that was small and loose. Freed up the bed for large boxes and coolers without small things floating around. Right now I have a plano weapons case on the cab rack, but it looks odd since there is only one. I might...

Victory 4x4 bed rack and extras

It mounts pretty easily - the lower mounting metal bracket is pretty soft, and I was able to bend it without much effort, but it lets me see at a glance that the bracket is on tight and the tent is not going anywhere. See the last picture...

    Waterport 3.3 install

A good friend gifted me the 3.3 gallon waterport. While I was trying to put it in a place which had easier accessability than inside the rail, I figured out how to 'hinge' down one of my Victory 4x4 side rack supports and turned it into an overland "shelf." This has worked out great, and I...

Victory 4x4 bed rack and extras

Got to say, with all the parts I ordered awhile back, Victory 4x4 has some serious interest in customer service. Went through some install issues along the way, but will rep for them when I get the chance. Happy with my mid-ht bed rack. Let me know how you like the headache component - I've...

    Whats your favorite mod?

I put one in - and it was very easy to follow the instructions. I wanted to use a single throw switch, and bought one from CH4x4, but the switch only allowed me to view the rear, and wanted to use the front camera. I have a new switch (the one that he sells) and just need to get back into the...

    SPOD

For additional components, I've got bed LED strips and rock lights. The relays are just hanging out under the powertray. I thought about buying any one of the relay mounting brackets, but didn't see a real need to do so. If I'm wrong, please someone tell me, but I don't have them mounted on anything. So far, out of all my wired accessories, I only have 2...

    SPOD

It looks like this is heading in the switchpros direction, but here's a cheaper alternative if you don't want to go that route. It's just a blue sea fuse block, breaker, and an aluminum mounting plate. Removing the factory fuse box cover is sometimes a struggle.

    Victory 4x4 skidplates

I most certainly have! I took the Taco out for some mild offroading, and my friend was amazed with the coverage and seamless joint from front skid to mid skid. If I had to do it over again, I would probably get the raw steel versions and just coat them myself with some spray can lining from...

Best roof racks and roof top tents?

On the subject of racks... I thought about just getting some crossbars at bed height, but didn't want to lose cargo capability for my camping trips (I have a few large boxes), and a full height rack would have prevented me from pulling in the garage to work on mods/weather protection/etc. Just...

I was put off by the prices when I first started looking, but once you click on enough websites, you'll find plenty of tents with widely varying price ranges. 275 or 285 size tires without CMC

It's a pre-packaged lift from Low Range Offroad. Believe it's called their Stage 1.5 3" lift kit. Drop in Bilstein coilovers up front, and an add-a leaf in the rear with Bilsteins as well. I didn't get the extended rear brake lines and saved a few bucks.
  52. Sbr7

275 or 285 size tires without CMC

I've got 285/70/17 with TRD rims 1" wider than stock (thanks FN wheels) and have no rubbing. 3" lift. Stock UCA. No spacers.
  53. Sbr7

RCI or Tacoma Apocalypse bed rack

It wasn't until AFTER I installed the RTT did I even check to see if it would fit in the garage. The mid height with RTT does (thankfully), so I'm thinking that's another reason to go mid. It's good to put the truck in the garage when it's tornado season here.

    Victory 4x4 skidplates

As many of you know, I have the Victory 4x4 front and mid skid. After some lengthy personal travel (overlanding) and a bit of troubleshooting with the mid skid install, I'm pleased to provide a review of both parts. Ordered them in steel (I would probably go aluminum for weight reduction on...

No worries. Believe Chris sent out what I needed, and I should be putting it on once it gets above 20 degrees here in Kansas. Will do a full write up once it's done, and will cover the front skid also. Thanks!

RCI or Tacoma Apocalypse bed rack

I'm a huge fan of the Victory 4x4 mid height bed rack. Super stout, and built like a tank.

    Victory 4x4 Mid skid

ShikyoX, I really appreciate what you're trying to do - but spending more time to take pictures, upload to the website, write a "here's why this doesn't work" play-by-play is just not the angle I was working. Anyone who has put this on will have the first hand knowledge I am specifically asking...

    Victory 4x4 Mid skid

Have you installed the mid skid? I'm referring to the black 'washer' inserts and how they go into the crossmember, and how to secure the nut with a wrench with one hand while tightening the bolt. I've not found a way to do this successfully. Anyone who has installed this will know exactly what...

    Victory 4x4 Mid skid

Having some significant problems installing this component - has anyone on this forum installed the mid skid on a 2016+ Tacoma? I've already reached out to Vic4x4, but wondering if someone has solved it in reality, besides "it should work" that Victory gave me.

Bigger Tires on Stock TRD Sport Wheel

The low range kit (well at least the 3" version I have) is not a spacer lift. I did a spacer lift on my prior gen 2 Tacoma, and it rode very rough. Doing springs/shocks on the current truck makes for a very smooth ride in comparison. In my post above, I was referring to hub-centric wheel...
  67. Sbr7

Bigger Tires on Stock TRD Sport Wheel

While I have that same lift with 285's, I don't have stock rims, so I don't want to give false info. I don't have any rubbing with 285s, and didn't do a cab chop. Some may say otherwise, but you could always go with spacers if you need to bump out the wheels a bit if you go with 285s.

    ditch light switch stays on

Hi all. Wired up my Caliraised ditch lights and a CH4x4 switch. The switch light stays on when the truck is turned off. I'm presuming this will not be a problem due to the low draw of the switch light, but I'm wondering why this is. Caliraised lights have 3 wires: blue, white, and black...

For those interested in LED headlights, let me offer my experiences: Purchased the Auxbeam F16 during a black Friday/Monday/something sale and put 'em in my 2017. What a difference in lighting. The 'whiter' light really had me impressed, however, I realized soon that I didn't get nearly the...

Bed Stiffeners - What do they do? Do I need them?

Have you seen instances of guys with bed racks for RTT that have the same bed cracks? I'm still trying to figure out the mechanics behind how these are a necessary component if you have a bed rack which strengthens the bed from 4 connection points rather than 2 at the rear. I'm no mechanical...

    Diff breather mod

So I'm reading threads on this topic, and was wondering if I can use an open element filter (commonly found on valve covers) for the breather mod, or do I need this special silver 'breather' to put on the end of the hose? So I'm looking at these right now. Don't understand the necessity for this to have in conjunction with the bed rack - but I'm here...
