drizzoh's build thread

No major updates lately to the truck, just have been doing some standard servicing on it lately but figured the thread could use a bump.

Was just about at 16k miles so I figured it was a good time to do some fluid changes. First up was to change the oil, and it was my first oil change since adding the Fumoto quick valve. Maaaan if it wasn't the smoothest oil change I've done to date on this thing. So much less mess when draining the pan. Still have absolutely no idea why Toyota decided to put the drain plug directly on the bottom, but whatever. This was also my first oil change with the metal filter cap and it was shocked at how easily it unthreaded from the engine. Another small upgrade I am very happy about. Cleanest oil change to date, but once my stash of discontinued TRD filters runs out I'm thinking it will get the spin-on conversion.

Next up was changing out the fluid in the diffs and transfer case. I've had good luck with Redline fluids so their 75w85 went into both diffs and MT-LV went into the transfer case. I did not expect the truck to feel any different after this, but I swear it's rolling down the road with less resistance and it definitely shifts into 4WD easier and drives smoother in 4WD than before. There was more break in material on the diff magnets than I was expecting, but nothing to worry about. The transfer case does not have a magnet in the fill plug for whatever reason, so I added this one from Trail Toys when I sealed it back up. I believe there is a magnet inside the transfer case itself but it's much easier to tell the health of a sealed system based on what you find on an easily accessible plug. The good news is the TC fluid that came out so looked fresh that I would almost feel like I wasted money if it 4WD wasn't so much smoother afterwards.

That's all for now. I have a couple parts to install still, but I've been spending all my time lately doing maintenance upgrades on the Supra and getting rid of ALL of it's 38-year-old rubber. I'm very excited to get that thing back on the ground and have it stay on its own 4 wheels for a while instead of living on jack stands.

Had a few extra GrimmSpeed urethane exhaust hangers leftover from upgrading the setup on my Supra so threw em on the truck last night. I didn't expect them to do anything, but they actually stopped the exhaust from contacting the spare tire so I'll take that as a win. Might have to order a few more and do the rest of them.

They look good too!
TY! Nobody will ever see it but I am digging the red on there too. For feng shui purposes I would love to flip the right one 180... but that one was almost impossible to install so it's staying that way, haha. These were ~$27 shipped for 1 or $40 shipped for 4. My Supra only uses 1 hanger of this style so I figured for an extra $13 it was a worthwhile upgrade on the Taco, but the main one it needs is the triangle rearmost one, so I will probably source a urethane replacement for that and swap it as well once I measure it.

Aaaand removed the hangers. They added an excessive amount of cabin exhaust noise that I really did not want or expect. I've never noticed added noise from hangers before, but apparently this truck does not like them. I'm much happier after reinstalling the stock hangers. I also finally added the Helmholtz chamber that MF includes with this catback and it has gotten rid of any remaining highway drone I still had but while keeping the exhaust noticeable while accelerating. It's a perfect setup now. <3

Hoping to get the truck paid off and get a project del Sol again. I miss them a lot.
Haeeeel yeah. Del's are dope. I really like being able to sit in traffic with the AT in the truck, but I'd go nuts if I didn't have an MT to throw around on weekends.

Good shit on paying yours off soon. I could pay mine off rn, but I paid a bunch extra already, so as of Jan, I don't have a payment due until June. The plan is to keep making big monthly principle-only payments and then just pay of whatever is leftover by then before it incurs more interest.

I'm always working on the Supra, I forget that the daily is super badass sometimes lol.

Thats really the move, paying down principle. My wife and I have been discussing the project car thing, but she said trucks gotta get paid off first. Which I get, plus then I won’t have a huge payment. I have a friend in SC who’s been holding onto a shell for me, 97, silver 5 lug swapped and b series ready. Plan is to buy it from him, buy a b20, ls or GSR trans there…then drive out install the swap, then drive it home with friends.

I mean that’s the plan, but who knows what will happen. I also fall back to this picture, because it always seems like it keeps getting pushed back.
