• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    Is this normal?

First, I am assuming this is a cold start scenario, i.e. first start in the morning. Thuds are not normal. Drive line should not be clunking during shifting procedure. High idle (1000-1250RPM) after a cold start is normal, it's to warm up the catalytic converters quickly. When you shift out...

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Had a short day at work so I finally changed the oil. I definitely like the aluminum filter cap over the stock plastic. Sucks that I still have to jack up the truck to drain the pan out, I was hoping I had enough clearance.... Oh well.

    Regrets

I would rather use a cowl induction hood vs a functional scoop, unless I was using a top mounted after cooler on a turbo setup (see Subaru). I'm always a fan of the old muscle cars with the cowl induction style hoods.

Where are watching the Super Bowl?

I am being VERY satirical. My sister ruined football (and drinking for fun, see: alcoholism) for me in many years ago (think entire dinners JUST talking about football), plus, I never really got into mainstream sports. I'll watch baseball and hockey but have zero idea of what's going on with the...

    Regrets

    Self adjustable rear drum brakes..

Self adjusting parking brakes are not very new. My 2002 Ford Ranger had them. Everytime you reversed, they would adjust. It's a bit different between manufacturers, but good to know how or which component is the catalyst for the adjustment.

    Manual Transmission Issues??

I get that, I'm over here in Central PA. I normally let the truck warm up and now I pump the pedal about 10 times or so before I leave the driveway. I've never had a clutch act this way before. I've driven many manual vehicles so it's just kind of odd.

    Manual Transmission Issues??

Since the very cold weather has set in, I have noticed a prominent squeak/squeal while working the clutch for the first 15 minutes or so from a cold start. I have also noticed the actuation of the clutch pedal is extremely slow and almost sticks to the "in" position. It has a slight delay and...

    Bulb upgrade recommendations

Street legal is out the window with any LED or HID upgrades, for non-fog lights anyways. That being said.... For low beams, definitely go with HID, as stated above, they are the brightest. Throttle controllers

I was incorrect, Bank's Power does make a system for our trucks. https://www.bankspower.com/i-3075-pedalmonster-throttle-sensitivity-booster-standalone-for-many-lexus-mazda-toyota.html#!submodel%3D3.5L%20GAS%7C%7Cmodel%3DTACOMA%7C%7Cmake%3DTOYOTA%7C%7Cyear%3D2018

    Throttle controllers

I understand, it's more of a it's great until it's broken and leaves you with zero throttle control on the highway. Bank's Power throttle box has a OBD plug that locks out the extra control in reverse and supplies 12v to power the module; so if the module ever goes out, it will basically fault...

The ECT PWR Button (How you use it?)

  36. E

    Throttle controllers

Yes, very common. Many will advise for the OV Tune, and I agree. I'm saving up for this currently. They run about $400-500 if you get it installed from a rep. Throttle boxes (think Pedal Commander) are a gimmick and if they fail, will leave you with ZERO control until you remove it from the...

    Rear disc brake conversion

Over three months ago. I've been down and out with a broken left leg. I'm sure there is a diverter or regulator for the drums at some point within the system to reduce pressure. Unless I am totally wrong. I haven't done any research on this. I don't mind tube bending and flaring. Part of a...

    Air compressor mounts

I have twin Viair 380's that have ZERO Tacoma support. I plan on at least 5 gallons if not 10. It'll be a spring time project, hopefully there will be more knowledge on systems and mounting by then.
  60. E

    Rear disc brake conversion

Meaning what exactly? Under or oversized? I absolutely am not following this at all. I live in Central PA and the mountains, inclines, and curvy hills are too plentiful to have to rely on drum brakes. I'm not sure why vehicles are still being made with drums when rotors are a better and safer...

    Electrical Dash Cam Discussion

Did you figure out which way you're going? Once I'm back on my feet, I'll probably be adding a similar set up but I'd like mine to have power all the time for when I'm parked in public. I'll probably run a switch so when I'm parked at home they won't draw power. Do you recommend the cameras you got?

    Maintenance Brakes Brakes Brakes

If you're looking for an aggressive bite on your brakes, I think you've got the correct plan. I will do some occasional towing but I drive rather aggressively on the norm and prefer to have stopping power when I command it. Hell, if it's in your budget try to get a set of EBC rotors and pads...

    On-board air questions

Funny story, I had this setup (5 gallons,.2-2.5 gallon tanks and both compressors with a setpoint of 200PSI) in a 2005 Prius mainly for use of airhorns (see DC metro area traffic dash cam footage) and had both compressors mounted in the under cargo area tray in the back. On-board air questions

So I've had on-board air in several vehicles and I'm looking to build a system for my truck. I have twin Viair 480's already and got my eye on a 5 gallon aluminum tank. I'm probably going to run a two tank setup (wet and dry) with the first being at 200PSI and the second regulated down to 165PSI...

I always apply the parking brake before taking my foot off the clutch and/or foot brake when parking. Muffler considerations

So I used to have an 02 Ranger with a 4.0 and I had a Flowmaster 40 installed and the resonator deleted. I enjoyed the aggressive tone and volume of the muffler.
