Midnight Black
This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.
Yes, I definitely need to take it slow and get used to the truck as it is! I have a bad habit of wanting to modify stuff right off the bat and that can get me in trouble. So no big changes for a while. That will also be a lot easier on my bank account. I just want to make it a bit more secure and easier to pick out in the parking lot.Enjoy what you have before you get in a hurry to change everything.
Yeah, I should think about comms. I had a Garmin inReach Mini for work some time back and it seemed like a solid device, but for convenient two-way conversations it's not the best. More of a "I broke my leg and can't reach help" kind of thing, but I may get one since they only need satellites to work and they can send texts. I need to look into CB vs. HAM for this since I don't understand the differences yet, but it sounds like a good idea to have a radio of some kind.Nice ride and welcome aboard the Taco train!
Great copilots - I'm sure there must be a story behind them!
Seems like a pretty well-thought out mods list. Also, I'm very intrigued by your back-seat-fridge idea.... you'll definitely need to post here if/when you come up with an install design.
Have you thought about comms (CB, ham, PTT, etc.) since it seems you'll be pretty remote?
Nice. Details? Link? Need to upgrade my sound system a bit too.
I used Subaru's upgraded tweeters since they bolt and plug in just fine, for some reason. The door speakers aren't nearly as bad as the stock tweeters, but I may replace those too at some point. But they're a low priority.Nice. Details? Link? Need to upgrade my sound system a bit too.
Have the JBL's? If you do this won't work for your truck.Nice. Details? Link? Need to upgrade my sound system a bit too.
Yes, have the JBL systemHave the JBL's? If you do this won't work for your truck.
The connectors don't match up with the JBL Tweeters. Better off to unplug the tweeter and cut off the connector.Yes, have the JBL system

Just grab a 3.5" speaker over a tweeter.
Thanks for jumping in, I didn't know it wouldn't work with the JBL systems.
A tank skid would be a good idea with this. I'm hesitant to armor this thing up much beyond that because of the suspension upgrades that would entail, though. But I'll probably end up doing that eventually. I was originally looking for a high rise fiberglass cap but this aluminum commercial one was a great deal, and I get to do a bunch more DIY, which is half the fun!Congrats on your long bed, I have a 2019 TRD off road, ..LB
One of my first MODS, I install a Leer camper, high back, , I do a lot of over night fishing trips,I usually sleep outside under my tarp set up 10x20, on a cot… nice thing is everything can be lock up, rain protected, and still able to sleep in the camper, if it gets too rainy and cold…
Please consider getting a gas tank skid plate…due to length of the truck? And rock sliders…?
Aloha,
Did you just split into the wire that was plugged into the rear view?
