• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

RE: Tesla. Do you have one? I'd love to know what you think as somebody that works on his own Tacoma, but can't touch the car. That is my "hate owning one" part, I'm not a fan of having to take it to a dealership for every little thing.
He does. Response is here (since I don't think it tagged you):

Depends on what you wouldn't like about owning a Tesla. Is it the money you'll save on fuel? The money you'll save on gas station treats? Being faster than virtually everyone else around you at any given time? Being the most comfortable car you've ever driven? Blowing the doors off all those noisy-ass rice cakes without even making a peep? Ability to eat a hamburger without touching the steering wheel? Being in the safest car on the road? Being on rails in the snow? Being kind to the environment? Perhaps you speculate the build quality, and would rather the build quality of the new McLaren's? Or maybe you just don't like the guy who invented them: Who's known as the peoples billionaire, who also happens to be the guy that privatized space travel, and is also now a warlord, and champion of freedom for the Ukraine.

All I think about when I chew gum (or other people chewing food) is The Gang Escapes now.

Ye Olde Pittsburgh Left. I hate it.
I almost enjoy when people try it in my 2000 4runner. My levels of fuck with that vehicle are in the negatives. Also, I had some very aggravating conversations about how we nearly implemented them as a feature in the Uber robot cars.

You can still work on them all you want. Just can't do engine mods and powertrain mods, because they don't exist. You can lift/lower them, do exterior mods, do interior mods, all the things.

Most dealer services can be done in your driveway/garage. Over 1 year owning the car and I've never stepped foot in the dealership. Not even when I purchased it.

Would you become a park ranger if possible?
Oh, that's a hard no. I wanted to be police officer when I was younger but I've become very cynical about government in general. The last few years have only confirmed that I don't have the patience to police people. But it's as necessary as it is dangerous these days and I appreciate those who do it, for sure!

But my perception of the world on a scale from anarchist to Robocop is approximately The Comedian, so I think it's for the best I stay out of law enforcement.

Pet peeves: I really hate it when common sense is nowhere to be found. Example: If you start a camp fire, before you pack up and leave, make sure the fire is out so you don't burn down the whole freaking state of California. To date, I have now found 2 camp fires still burning at abandoned campsites. 1 of them had a burning log OUTSIDE of the fire ring. This blows me away.
New car/truck you like that isn't a Taco?: Like one that I can actually afford or a dream car?
Reality: Lexus ES350 Dream Car: Lamborghini Aventador.

Is cost of living going to be the demise of your sanity?: Short answer, no.

We have a tight community here but I have a bad memory. If you feel comfortable, answer all or some of these questions. Or create your own questions to answer. I need to get better at knowing people. 😩

Have you been to the wild horse beach on the northern border of NC (Outer Banks)? Not sure if that beach is well known in MD, but if it's not, it would probably be a reasonable weekend drive for you.

New car/truck you like that isn't a Taco?: No. There's lots of OLD vehicles I like, but really no new ones
I used to be like this too. Then, in 2017, I decided to accept that I might not ever love new vehicles, at least according to my original taste. So, I bought the Taco on a bit of a whim, hoping I wouldn't regret it. I ended up starting to regret it while falling asleep that night. Then I drove it to work the next day and realized I love it, which opened me up to new vehicles in general. They are often still very ugly to me, though.

Been to most of the beaches in and around the Outer Banks, it's one of my favorite places. We've driven to Wanchese to buy shrimp, and driven back home the same day (won't do that again, it's too hard on the ass, lol).

Honestly, the Tacoma is one of the few new vehicles I like. Subaru Crosstrek isn't bad, and the new Bronco is nice (but EXPENSIVE!!!). For me, it all boils down to esthetics. I just prefer the old school look of the Suzuki Samurai, the old Rover Defender, The old FJ40. There's a lot to like about new vehicles (power steering maybe?) but given the choice I'll have another one of these, please. :)

What are some of the kinks with it? Haven't been keeping up on the new Tundra.
I can't remember exactly what but I was reading about a few issues when it had just come out. First year models of a new generation are always something I avoid, regardless of manufacturer.

wastegate valve on the turbo. Gets stuck open. Requires pulling the body off the frame or a complicated removal of the right front suspension and drivetrain to get at. Unexpected due to longstanding reliability in the lexus LS model. Modified due to different torque and others needs for the truck. 3-6 month wait for fix due to supply line issues.

Did detailed looking at this issue due to just purchasing an LX 600 with the same engine.

Put an aftermarket wastegate on that thing. Factory ones suck anyway.
