Ok so as I am understanding, since I have 16” wheels that if I go with a 295/75-16 I will be the same size as the guys running 285’s on 17” wheels. Now to my next question. What do y’all think? I am doing a regear hopefully soon and am currently running 265/75-16’s. I don’t hear many people running the 295’s and this is why I am asking.

They should be more of a true “33” from what I read, they are a 33.4” diameter. I’ll be doing a CMC while the regear is getting done as well.
 
Also, 34x10.5r17 is a size to consider as well. It should be slightly bigger than the 295/75.

This is a good tool for comparing sizes and seeing measurements. The only problem is not every brand is exactly the same even though they’re the same size. Kind of like shoes and clothes.

I like that one, I have used others before, this one is cool because it shows you the tire on a wheel as well for comparison. I guess I just wanted to know why nobody really runs them, I never see anyone with them.

@kherring7 on Instagram is running 295/75/16 BFG K02'S.
 
295/75r16 is closer to a 34 than "most advertised 33s" most 33s measure 32.5ish and the 295 measures 33.5ish.
I had a set on my first gen and it's the closest you'll get to a 285/75r17 while on a 16" wheel.
I had the Toyo at2 extreme and they were a great tire.
I dropped down from true 35s and it was a pleasant surprise for daily use.
One could also run a 255/85 and save some weight that way too.

I think u don't hear many running them because a lot of people moved to 17s.
Secondly 285/75r16 is 100x more common to find at a local tire shop and it's essentially like any other 33. You're gaining 10mm width and MAYBE a 1/2" ground clearance under the rear dif when running a 295 instead.

You run in to more clearance issues with wider tires than taller ones, plus the pizza cutters will return better fuel economy and you're only giving up somewhere between .1-.2" of actual ground clearance. Even at that, you are still 1/4-1/2" better off than with most 285/75R16s.

That's a tough one for me.
I had 295 on the taco and 255 on the 4runner.
Both did what I wanted and needed. Both could be had in other than E rating.
If one is on factory wheels they simply won't get away with running the 295 without a spacer because it will rub UCA and frame rail on lock.
255 won't rub either.
255 has never let me down on the trail but I like the seat of the pants feel of lateral traction with the wider tire.

This is also good to know. I have SCS wheels and they poke out a bit further but that 1.5” of width difference won’t be that bad to go with the 255.
