• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    M/T gearbox whistle?

I never noticed that with my manual trans when I was stock, but I definitely do have transmission gear whine at 75ish in 5th/6th with my 5.29 gears. Must just be from how much faster everything is spinning at the same vehicle speed before the regear. No noise in 4th ever so I know it’s the...

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

Good stuff. That’s the exact tire I ran for 21k-ish miles; 265/65R17 XL. If I didn’t have 5.29 gears I’d probably want them again, but the revs are a bit much with a manual and those gears and tires. I’m thinking about going with 265/70R17 SL next time instead of the 255/75R17 LT-C’s I have...

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

Sorry, I don’t get on here a lot. I think your plan is good. For my use I definitely think stock height is best. No fiddling with driveline angles, no added hassle of having to step higher to get in, just overall a more practical plan for the daily driver in my eyes. I agree that the Sport...

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

I hate when folks don't follow up on threads, so here I am following up on my thread. I did trade for the 2020+ Sport rims, which are 17x7.5" +30mm. I ran the 265/65R17 Toyo ATIIIs on them for 6 months, worked great. A few weeks ago I upsized to LT255/75R17 C Toyo ATIIIs on the same rims. Still...

    2020 Tacoma TRD Pro

I don't know how anybody can really help with this until we at least see some pictures of what was removed, what wires were cut into, etc.... Highly dout this is worth trading in over.

    OVTune OTT Tune

$400 for tuning kit. You paid an extra $245 for the tune pack from OVTune. Then you paid another $79 to update. OTT, if you have it done by someone, is usually $400. The problem is, that's a flat fee. If you want to ever try any other tunes, that will be another $400, not to mention the lack of...

    OVTune OTT Tune

The VFTuner kit should be like $400 and tunes should be roughly $200, in general. There are exceptions but as far as I know Yotawerx and OTT are both $200 tunes.

    Oil filter

It is a fantastic kit....I have no desire to change from the cartridge filter after getting the tool kit. OEM Filters and the tool kit is good enough for me.
  9. BLtheP

    Oil filter

Get the MotivX tool kit....I never get any oil on me after getting those tools. It is a drain for the filter housing, a socket for the filter housing, and a funnel for the oil filler tube.

New! Rigid Industries Amber PRO Lighting Series!

That's pretty sweet. I LOVE Rigid products, they are the only light brand for pod style lights that I'll buy. Now that throws a wrench into whether I want white or amber D-SS driving pods for ditch lights. Already bought the brackets but I've been taking my time on buying the lights, now I have...

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Enfig is a better mic than the one that comes with the radio. It’s nice and clear. I had the trail grid pro for a bit also. Siri could not hear me correctly with it. Told it to map me somewhere and it started calling someone named Sally. Very frustrating. Tombit was an option for a while but...

If you didn’t already, get the Enfig mic rather than using the one that came with the stereo.

    Morimoto X3B10 3rd Brake Light

There are two third brake light types: 05-15 all cabs & 16+ Access Cab (factory 3-bulb 194 red housing) 16+ double cab (factory all-LED clear housing) Physically they are not the same, there are actually differences in the cabs. So you have to stick with your cab type and year. Morimoto...

    Morimoto X3B10 3rd Brake Light

It's because you have an access cab. The access cab 3rd gens have the same 3-bulb red third brake light that the 2nd gens all had. The double cab 3rd gens have a clear LED 3rd brake. The only downside to the stock one on the double cabs is that the clear looks kind of plain and the light output...

I have a TRD Sport 17" stock wheels 30mm; I want to use 17" TRD PRO Sema wheels, they have a 4mm offset

I went the opposite direction. On 265/65s I had no issues either way. 265/70 on the Semas would hit the mud flap on turns sometimes. 265/70 on the stock sport rims will not.

    BLP's 2021 TRD Off-Road 6-Speed Manual

I don't update this thread much anymore, mostly due to time and laziness, but I did want to talk a bit about to upcoming project....regear day! Back in June, I reached out to @Texoma on TacomaWorld (Triple C Chop Shop) about regearing my truck. I decided to pull the trigger and scheduled for...

    tuning

Tuning provides a nice drivability improvement making the throttle feel more responsive and slightly increasing power. It is not going to make towing go from suck to great. It will go from suck to very slightly suck less. The biggest thing a tune will do to help with towing is maybe adjust trans...

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Changed from the very boring black tailgate letters that you could barely see, to the OEM chrome ones. Looks MUCH better on MGM, especially with the sport rims and chrome exhaust tip. I’m not a chrome fan in general but I think it really pops here and black is lame. Also, it depends on the...

4th Gen Tacoma Which Trim to buy

I’ll answer the question first. To me, a TRD Off-Road or Sport makes the most sense if you plan to modify it. A TRD Pro makes more sense if you don’t want to modify it. An SR5 doesn’t appeal to me for two reasons: automatic transmission only and inability to upgrade to the led headlights or any...

    OVTune OTT Tune

Thanks for the info. If I were trying the YW, I’d definitely want to try both. No worries at all, I’ve wanted to do this since before we’ve ever talked. There are so many options, it’s hard not to wonder what else is out there. The guy that tuned me first ran SFOB and then KD and OTT. He...

    OVTune OTT Tune

Fair enough. I’m not much in the know on dynographs and what it takes to properly create and market a tune. I don’t ever drive at low lugging rpm in situations where I can avoid it. People that ride with me are always surprised how I keep the revs high as I drive. The problem for me is with...

    OVTune OTT Tune

A lot of good points here. I’ve been on OTT with the manual since May ‘22. Bone stock tires size, all terrains. The frustrating part about the tune industry is definitely what N3 said. Researching just gets you looking at who can shout the loudest, which sucks. At the time I was choosing my...

Something I really like at another forum I go to or used to go to, is the stats for a thread. ClubFrontier has what I'm referencing. BLP's 2021 TRD Off-Road 6-Speed Manual

Thanks, I liked the Semas but they just didn't give me the "pop" I wanted. The E loads were rough, I got rid of them first back in around July, then just a week ago did the trade for the rims. Definitely felt a noticeable power increase by going from 265/70 Es back down to 265/65 XLs. About 16...

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

I think I’m just going to stay on the 30.5” 265/65R17s. I keep asking myself why I want to go bigger and honestly there is no reason.

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

Nope, I work on job sites and constantly get crap (mud, rocks, etc) lodged in my tires. As soon as I’m leaving it’s flinging all that crap into the flaps and a bit of it goes into the doors. If I had no flaps all of it would go into the doors and lower body panels and I don’t want to subject my...

Tire Sizes That Work with Stock Mud Flaps - 255/75R17?

So, I bought my 2021 back in May, and it came with the gray TRD Sema rims (17x7” +4MM offset). They either happened by the PO or the selling dealer. I like these rims (especially since they’re 17”) but what I don’t like is the lesser offset makes it to where when running a 265/70R17 (30.6”)...

Nice man, I love the color myself. I wasn't searching for any specific color, only that I knew I didn't want white. I agree on the 6 speed, much more fun than an automatic. I don't like automatics at all. For the build thread, just create the thread in this section of the forum. For putting the...

Meso Customs Total Tail Stage 1 install and review

I like the total tail kit for the wiring, but wasn’t a fan of all the bulbs. I ended up settling on stock tail/brake bulbs because they were brighter in daytime than the Meso red bulbs. Also I felt the Meso bulbs were too bright on low mode, and not brighter enough on brake mode. Whereas the...

    Regrets

Not a big regret but I wanted a sport to begin with and I still stand by the fact that I would have liked one more than the Off-Road. However when seeking out manual transmissions specifically, you are not afforded the right to be very picky. There's no real reason to it other than I just have...

    Pre-Purchase Question CaliRaised Leadlamps

Here's a picture of the harness from Dave. I bought it for my 21 TRD OR that has halogen lamps. I would need this for any 2016-2022 TRD with halogens. The only differences from 2020 and onward is that they could have had the upgrade from the factory, but many of them still did not and were...

    Pre-Purchase Question CaliRaised Leadlamps

It is not plug and play unless you buy a harness. Daveeasa sells one through his site, FBC harness solution, as well as Morimoto has a version and a few others do too. I would (and did) go with the Dave one, he does the nicest work and uses nicely labeled and uniquely colored/striped wire. The...

    Pre-Purchase Question CaliRaised Leadlamps

Well before I begin I am going to assume that they wired their lights to utilize the factory led headlight plug. If you have halogen headlamps then you will need the adapter harness that’s made for any of the 3 TRDs (any TRD can be optioned for factory LED, it’s just the pros get it more often...

    BLP's 2021 TRD Off-Road 6-Speed Manual

It was as much a truck as any other, it could tow and haul as much as the Tacoma and had more power for sure, but everything else about it was worse. It was nowhere near as nice to ride in and it definitely had some quality control issues in quite a few aspects which is probably why it cost what...

    BLP's 2021 TRD Off-Road 6-Speed Manual

Thanks for having me! I just picked up this Magnetic Gray 2021 TRD Off-Road a few weeks ago at Family Toyota in Arlington, TX about two weeks ago.
