• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

2024 Tacoma Revealed! Here's Everything About It.

Looks pretty. Nice evolution of appearance. But, rear disks, box frame, clearance for larger tires without chopping, coils all around, better charging system, actual low-end torque, better seats, 6-speed manual available or who cares?

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

I love it. No leaking at all. I don't think they were selling too many, so who knows? Love the 4.7:1 low range. I wish the stock low was this ratio. Double low is crazy slow. I use the Marlin low more than stock, just wish I could use my rear locker without using stock low.

HAHA, no, the folks at Iron Pig took care of that. Pretty clean look, I think.

To each his own. I have some experience with this stuff and know what I want.

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

Axle regear does not achieve the same thing. I want that crawl ratio. I like the current driveability in non technical situations and road manners. We have a 2nd Gen 4dr 6speed TRD OR in the training fleet. It has been used and abused by students and I have driven it extensively in tight Eastern...

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

The axle regear is a possibility, though not my preference. I am reevaluating things at this point.

My recent updates from Marlin: Response to inquiry on 6 August 2019 "Ted, Unfortunately, we do not have an ETA on when that one will be available. The coupler and adapter plate have been sent off to be machined, then once those get back to us we are going to test fitment and make sure everything...

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

So, even with the automatic, there are/were oil level issues? Maybe the new seal and output shaft revisions will solve this. The BIG question is how does she do off road now?

Man O Man that is awesome! I am drooling.

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

I finally got some response from the guys at Marlin Crawler. First email today 8/6 "Finally have an update for you. Mike believes he has found a way control the oil level better in the case for the 6 speed so that it does not pump out of the top. He also has finished the design for a proper...

Why did you choose the Tacoma?

It was time to let my 80 series Land Cruiser go. I wanted the pickup bed because muddy gear in the back of an SUV is a hassle. My company has a 2007 TRD OR 4dr 6spd and I have seen it go through holy hell. I have seen it perform off road. I have driven it for long distances and it's a good...

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

My optimistic side says they are trying to drum up enough interest to justify building enough of them to make money. But, it's vaporware at this point. My frustration is palpable. The TacoBox is truly the basis of my build. Where we wheel in Virginia (and the east in general) things are tight...

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

Yeah I've heard that one, too. Also, despite Mike's manual tranny, the version for the manual has fluid issues. I was told it either has to be run low and "watched" or deal with leaking and top it up regularly.

Marlin Crawler Tacobox for 3rd gens

Well, I tried to order one late in 2017, right after I got my truck. Still waiting.

2017 TRD Off Road from Virginia

I have heard nothing from them. I do contact them periodically via email, but the only person who responds is their sales guy, Trevor.

2017 TRD Off Road from Virginia

I have been checking in periodically, but I find it kind of frustrating. I REALLY want my TacoBox. Athough Marlin has released the 3rd Gen version for automatics, they do not seem to be in any hurry to get the manual transmission version sorted out. I love this truck, but it's really still a...

2017 TRD Off Road from Virginia

Thanks! I have tried not to spend money on purely cosmetic things. I think these trucks are pretty good looking right out of the box and, to my mind, form follows function. I am pleased with the way it has turned out. Regarding lift height: I never measured it stock, so I'm not sure what the...

2017 TRD Off Road from Virginia

Sold my 80 Series and bought a Tacoma. Have bit of previous experience with these trucks because my company owns two of them. Both 2nd Gen TRD Off Roads, one is an auto and one is a six-speed manual. So, mine is a six speed and I have had a lot done, but it's not finished. Iron Pig Off Road in...
