It's getting cool outside and the best camping spots are finally not crowded.
I just ordered one of those little diesel heaters. My rtt is small enough to heat with a few candles in a lantern, but needed to find a way without all the condensation.
I'll post a review after I try it out.
Anyone else looking forward to winter camping?
I want to catch Moab in the prime window before the trails are snowy.

My wife and I were talking just the other day about how it would be nice to get out to Moab before the trails are covered. We would love to catch a light snow out there if possible.

I use a diesel heater in my pelican case on my roof (5Kw) with a winter liner in the rooftop tent and its perfect for winter camping!!! Just used it this last weekend in 20 degree weather, we slept in shorts and a t shirt with a single blanket and we were sooo cozy. Diesel heaters are the perfect way to go for dry heat and a more efficient use of fuel!

*Note the diesel orientation needs the exhaust to be facing down, this was before I figured that out the hard way lol

That looks pretty compact.
Stoked for winter even more now

How much drain on the battery do you get over night?

the drain on the battery isnt much, its about 1-2 amps depending on what setting the heat is at. For starting the heater up though it draws 8 amps for about 5 minutes.

I use an RTT tent liner I picked up on amazon. It's tepui branded, but it fits inside all the small/medium RTT tents that share the identical architecture. I went camping in 20 degree weather and turned on the buddy heater for about 10 minutes. After that the tent was warm all night. I HIGHLY recommend this liner.

I use that liner in addition to my diesel heater (set on low for the night) and we sleep in shorts and t shirts with a single blanket! That liner is amazing!!

Lake Lindsey near Bowman lake. No heaters, just your own testosterone to keep you warm.
Awesome! Do you have the thermal inner liner on your tent?

Negative. I survived that weekend with just two heavy sleeping bags so I dont think I'll need a liner. I was looking into getting one up until that point.

Damn, IMO that's something you do because you have too not to enjoy the wilderness.
All good brother. It was a great time and the best trip we have had so far. The key to doing something like that is proper planning. Being two Marines we had contingency plan on top of contingency plan because we knew what we were going into. We thoroughly enjoyed the wilderness and Mother nature.

So here is my almost complete 2kw CDH setup in my Tacoma. I am getting a go GFC style camper in a couple weeks and am excited to be nice and warm in the Colorado mountains! Disclaimers: my exhaust connections are nice and tight and vent out the back of the truck, we have a very good CO detector for the camper, and I know my fuel tank and pump are a little higher than the heater, but it should work just fine. 🤙
