Help! Unlock steering wheel on dead truck.

Hello, I'm going to be heading to the junk yard soon to take out some mods that I couldn't take out at the tow yard after my truck was totalled. One of them is the N2 remote start system. I need to remove the steering wheel cover to extract the wiring harness it came with. Is there a way to unlock the steering wheel or disconnect it on a dead car so I can access this harness? Tyia

First sorry to hear about your Tacoma. I am sure you are sad and frustrated, but hopefully not hurt.

Are your airbags still intact? If so, I would be cautious working around the steering column. Be sure to disconnect the battery and wait a bit for any residual power to drain off.

I am guessing you are push button start like my Tacoma. I do not think the push button start has a mechanical release. However, it is my understanding you can still remove the lower steering column/dash trim and access the ignition harness area. I believe the N2 remote start is usually under the dash not inside of the steering column.

I have not tried this myself so proceed at your own risk.

I hope this helps and I hoping the parts recovery goes well for you.

Thanks, yes it's P2S. And all the airbags deployed, no power, and even if I'd did, pretty sure the steering rack is a mess. I saw in the install video that I had to remove the cladding because the harness attaches somewhere behind it. Hopefully I can access it and remove it without creating more damage before the insurance photoshoot.
