Good morning. My 21 TRD Pro started making a strange ringing sound. It does not happen while the truck is on or driving. It only happens when it is off and everything is cooling down. I’ve taken the truck to a few places and they don’t know what it is. Of course Toyota says is normal. The truck has 70k miles and it never did this. Any help or direction will be appreciated.

It sounds like hot metal cooling down to me. Have you ever had a coolant system flush? You might want to give that a try. You might have a section of your engine that is not cooling as well as it used to.

If it is metal cooling it is probably not a big deal but as it is a new sound, I would give the flush a try. It is a bit early to need a coolant flush, but it will not hurt anything to have it done early. It might not hurt to add some water wetter after the coolant flush to help the coolant do its job.

Keep us posted on how it turns out. I have my fingers crossed that a simple coolant flush will work for you.

Thank you for the reply and advice. I am taking it in to another mechanic on Tuesday and will ask to have it done. I’ll update afterwards. There were always metal sounds as the hot metals cooled but this one caught me by surprise. Thank you.

Update: I took the truck to the mechanic. When I arrived it did not make the noise. Even though I showed the videos to the mechanic, there was not much he could do if the issue was not there any more. I’m still concerned because it happened and I have no idea what that could be. He did check the entire truck and said everything was good and there was no need to do anything. Coolant, oil or any other fluids. At this point I’m driving as usual. If something happens it happens. Thank you for the response and support.

Thanks for the update. Probably nothing to worry about. I am glad you got it checked out, and hopefully, nothing gets worse.
