Quick tire question

MKJ-Taco

1️⃣ Getting Started...
I recently took over a 2019 Tacoma SR5 4 door, 2WD from a deceased relative. Great truck, in GREAT shape…. AWFUL tires! I’m an old Jeep guy, just lost a 1991 XJ that I drove for 32 years (485K miles) and sold my last YJ Wrangler that I built for my son years ago. I want to put a 3”front/2”back leveling kit on the Taco, then the biggest KO2’s (or KO3’s) that will fit comfortably under it. Only occasional light trail runs with the grands. Any opinions would be GREAT! Thx

Welcome!

First let me say, I am sorry for your loss. I have recently inherited some items from a deceased relative as well. It can defiantly be a rollercoaster of emotions. Hang on to the good memories and don't let the feelings of loss drag you down.

The general guideline is max tire size without trimming would be 265/75/16, 275/70/17 or 255/85/16. 285/75/16 and 285/70/17 usually fit after some plastic trimming. KO2's ran a little small for size and some reported no need for trimming with the 285's but it is my understanding the KO3's are true to size and trimming is almost always needed.

This is assuming the right offset on your wheels. Too much offset or to little will cause rubbing issues. The sweet spot for aftermarket wheels seems to be an offset of zero and 4.5 inches of backspacing.

I hope this helps.

I will say my 285/70/17's on my 17x8.5 -10's needed a CMC and front bumper trimming to clear, but now I have room to go bigger. :)

IMO K02's are garbage, but the K03 is supposed to be a huge upgrade.

Stay as far away as you can from Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I didn't know it was possible to hate a tire this much. The only good thing about them wearing terribly fast (likely because they do not grip on ANY surface) is that I can upgrade to larger ones faster.
