Park/Neutral Position Switch

1️⃣ Getting Started...
Hi, thank you for letting me post here. I have a problem. I have a 2016 Tacoma that won't shift into drive. It skips drive and goes directly into "S" sport mode. It also shows track off and engine light on the dash. I went to the dealer and they wanted $166 just to bring it into the shop and give me the code. I took it to O'Reilly's Auto parts and they said it's throwing a code of P0705, fault in the transmission Range Sensor. They said replace the Park/Neutral Position Switch (PNP) which I did. That's a whole another story. Prices range from $25 through Walmart and Amazon to $356 from NAPA. I received a new OEM part upgrade. The old part is 84540-04020 which has been up graded to 84540-60050. I have a new part with the blue sticker on it. I installed it and the It still will not shift into Drive it skips and goes into "S". Is the adjustment on this switch real finicky? Any suggestions?

Thank you.
Dan

If you're not low on fluid and the new switch had no results (did you clear the code after installing the new switch)
Then it is most likely an electrical contact, or another electrical component gone / going bad.

Save yourself some time and money go to the dealer and have the scan the vehicle.
Could be as easy as the remote start wire (as the wires are shared by the "safety system") loosing connecting.

A proper scanner with an experienced mechanic can find the issue in an hour.

I think you need to adjust the timing of the neutral safety switch by physically rotating it until the switch and what the truck is reading are in sync.
