ha ha, um, good luck!! But wait, didn't you already buy suspension and a few other things? Who's making your bed rack? I really want to get the CBI adventure rack sooner rather than later

Haven't bought anything yet. Ordered the rack from RCI. Wanted the CBI overland bed rack, but would have to modify the cover WAY too much to get it to work. Not to mention the RCI pc'd and shipped was $500 cheaper...

Doing my research on suspension, but figured I'd get the rack and tent first and just get out there and see what we need.

Smart. Do your research and buy what is going to work for your use case. Unless you just wanna set your wallet on fire and go full retard. But who would wanna do that???:censored:

Lol, yeah 0uTkAsT 0uTkAsT 's ban ended yesterday but I think he just needed to get some PM's from his account and spread the word about this place. Mine and Jerry's bans are indefinite, but we're not going back anyhow.

Haha yeah I snagged my deals that I was working on with a couple of vendors over there and I'm gone. I will only be on TW to cross-post our meets and happy hours for the foreseeable future until those threads gain more traction on this site.

That's entirely possible since I live near San Tan Village and my daughter's preschool is literally right behind it, but my truck is silver, not cement.

Might've been wrong on color. I make it a habit of looking for modified tacos in parking lots so I can show my wife all the stuff we should buy. We were sitting in Grimaldi's and a lifeted quicksand rolls by w/a rack and tepui mounted and she got more excited than I did. Prolly going 23zero Litchfield though, unless I can find more info on these Overland Pros tents. The price is better on em, but gotta do my homework a bit before I commit to one...

I would go with the 23Zero personally. You can buy them locally and the Overland Pros look pretty crappy on paper. I hadn't heard of them until now but the specs and descriptions are not very impressive to me.

We're currently torn between a 23Zero Bondi or holding out for FSR to release their 62" High Country series tent.

I like the FSR adventure series, those quarter dome looking ones. If I still had the T4R, I would totally go with one of those instead. Full foldouts still give more space for the truck bed, it seems...

His was the first thread I found on that other place when I started looking at 6MT stuff, trying to decide if a manual was what I really wanted. Then the rabbit hole opened...

I have a family of three plus a dog, so we're not looking at the quarter dome type. We're looking at this style:

1530200747952.png

Only problem is, it's currently only offered in a 55" or 80" version, no 62-65" version (which is what we need) is currently being offered, but FSR's product development guys at Overland Expo West told us they're thinking about offering one.

On the flip side, 23Zero already offers the Bondi which is almost exactly what we want and a lot less expensive, but I am not a huge fan of the smaller windows or the God awful baby puke green color they chose for it.

Lol, I kinda like it :p I like the FSR tents and the different design. Have to convince the boss that the annex room isn't necessary...

Totally! Our old tent had the window awnings, atrium (aka covered entry), and the full annex... And we sold it because of that. It's all nice to have if you're frequently camping in storms, need a dedicated changing room / dog room / overflow area for extra people tagging along, or are staying for more than 2-3 nights at a time in the same place. But none of that really applied to us... we only ever used it for the dog, and once or twice when the wife just wanted some privacy. We also tend to only stay in one place for one night at a time.

The downsides to all the bells and whistles are significantly more time and hassle to the set up and take down the tent, basically doubling the inconvenience and tripling the amount of time it takes to get squared away, which super sucks when you're getting a late start and have been driving all day and just want to go to sleep. You can't cook or eat "real food" inside the annex to stay away from bugs or out of the weather, because food odors go right up into the tent itself and permeate your bedding. Bad smells that get stuck in the fabric of the tent and the mattress itself never go away. Plus you've gotta worry about grease splatter, carbon monoxide, etc. They also create a lot more wind noise (the annex walls specifically), extra weight and bulk including extra components that need carried with you separately from the tent itself (window stays, annex walls/floor/both, guy lines, etc.) and all of the above combines to provide less ventilation and less visibility out of the tent when set up.

At the end of the day we figured out what was most important to us, and realized that our tent was basically the opposite of what we needed, so we sold it for a good price and are just waiting for the right deal on the right tent to come along to replace it.

I liked the FSR designs. Had an opportunity to run one but after seeing it all opened up and crawling around in it, it just felt like a step down in quality and durability from my CVT. The big windows are awesome though, it just lacked some key features that my CVT has

Thanks for the info. It's just two of us and the dog. What do you do w/your dog when you're out? I have a GSD, so she's kinda hard to get up into the tent, hence our interest in the annex portion.

What CVT are you running? We were originally looking at the Shasta Extended, but the 23Zero Litchfield ticks all the same boxes, can be bought locally, and is a bit cheaper for a 3.5 vs 3 season tent. I say 3.5, cause I doubt the Litchfield can handle temps like the Summit Series can, and we're definitely planning to do some light winter camping.

I've got the CVT Mt. Shasta Extended Summit with Stargazer. Got a stupid good deal on it and thus far, haven't really found anything that quite measures up

That was the one thing the annex was really good for. We have a black lab mix and depending on weather he either sleeps in the truck (with the back seat folded down on a memory foam dog bed) or in the tent with us. He doesn't particularly like being hoisted in or out of the tent, but doesn't fight me too bad either. He sleeps like a baby inside though and usually curls up on the wife's feet, so she likes that he keeps her warm.
