I am in the process of installing the new Midland MXT500 and it’s rather large. So I am kinda forced to mount it on top of my expedition essentials TPAM mount.

I was wondering if anyone knows a clever way to route the wires from the top of the dash to the engine bay? I am stumped for ideas that make it a clean install
 
Can you take a pic of how it's gonna be mounted? I might have some ideas and could give you a better answer if I could see it.
 
interested... I just got my MXT500 the other day... thinking I may have to disassemble the 3tpam, and remove the cluster to run wires.. kinda gives me an excuse to remount the speedo calibration box, and run a USB wire for it so I can reprogram it easily for more accuracy.. I want the radio unit/scree accessible/visible at all times.. I had the MXT275 mounted in the passenger footwell, but this thing is substantially heavier, and larger.. I might have to look into relocating my inreach mini, and the mic mount...

Midland makes a GMRS you can mount under the seat and all the controls are on the hand set. That seems much more practical for mounting.

I had one.. its the MXT275 15watt in the picture I posted above... I wanted more power/clarity of the 50 watt radio.. MXT500 was the one to fit the bill... but looks like I may be mounting it near where I had the MXT275 in the footwell... this is a pic I found of the MXT400... the MXT500 is slightly taller, but not much.. and I would not have to relocate all my 3TPAM stuff..

I mounted mine a little higher than the MXT275 so access to the controls is easier.. and i went to local Autozone to get some terminal ends, and did the wiring install in the parking lot.. took about 10 minutes.. I was able to fish the wire under the center console and across the top of the pedal assembly, and steering wheel to the main grommet, and fished it through with the fuse holder taped together so it wouldn't come apart, I stripped back the wire a little further and added ring terminal ends (I used the Dorman Builder series which came with heat shrink, and a bare ring terminal crimped them on, heat shrink, and installed on battery).. radio can now stay on no matter what just have to be sure to turn it off... (I may wire this into a switching system when I get to it.. looking at the trigger six shooter..
