This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.
Thanks for the info. So your saying my truck has 4.30 gearing? What gearing would you suggest i put in it then. I thought it came with the 3.91 gears but if it 4.30 Should i do the 4.88 or bigger? i only plan on putting 33" tires on it as i only use it for camping but i take alot of gear with me and we go back country camping?L4 5MT: 8.8" 3.91:1 without Locker
L4 6AT: 8.0" 4.30:1 without Locker
V6 6MT Except TRD Off-Road: 8.8" 4.30:1 without Locker
V6 6MT TRD Off-Road: 8.8" 4.30:1 with Locker
V6 6AT Except TRD Off-Road: 8.0" 3.91:1 without Locker
V6 6AT TRD Off-Road: 8.8" 3.91:1 with Locker
In short: All manual transmission models have the 8.8" differential (even the 2.7). For automatic transmission models, only the TRD OR gets the 8.8" diff, all other automatic transmission models have the 8.0" diff.

ThanksE locker = large diff. No locker = small diff.
Is an 8.8 considered to be much stronger than the 8"
