Hey all! Last Friday night I got rear ended by my dumb brother who was following me and was on his phone. A stoplight turned red so I stopped and unfortunately he didn’t. His car ended up total but mine ended up pretty bad as well. I haven’t even had my taco for a year yet but I mean shit happens. I’m curious on what a repair for all this damage would probably cost. I’m also afraid they may total it for the frame creasing on both sides in the back where the hitch cross bar connects. The actual bed behind the fenders cracked on both sides as well. What do you guys think it would cost and do you think they will total my truckfor the frame creasing? I ran down to to the body shop and here are some more pictures. The bed is hitting the cab but not sure if it’s done damage. The black piece where it touches is rubber. Italked to them and they said the whole frameneeds to be replaced and they are just tryingto get it approved by the insurance. My truckonly has 9,500 miles and it’s within the rangewhere all parts have to be factory parts withno exceptions. So that’s a plus I guess. They’llbe calling back later today on what theinsurance says.

Yeah i would buyback if it was totaled ! Because the bed took all the damage ,maybe frame as well. I would buyback because i would install a custom flatbed in my opinion

I think it'll be salvage at least (>25% of value to fix the damage), and maybe totaled.

But, I'll be the contrary voice. I would not buy it back. The reason salvaged and totaled vehicles are worth less on the market (~50-60% of non-salvage value) even after they are fixed is because of the potential for future problems. That significant an impact will decrease the longevity of driveshafts, u-joints, shocks, springs, bushings, etc. alignment issues and tire wearing problems can also surface. It may even have some long term engine things that show up in the future.

Take the money, invest in a new truck.

This is the best solid advice to be honest. My best friend owns a body shop near me., it amazing what it costs to put a frame on a truck. While it can be done, you'll be better off in the long run to let them total it and go find another truck.

I've had my share of totaled vehicles in the past, in my experience they are not worth the headaches associated later on down the road. Glad no one was injured!

This is crazy…

I actually suffered nearly the exact same damage on my 2017 3G taco in an accident on July 6th. I was not at fault at all, so I’m having the other person’s insurance fix everything. I’ve taken it to a body shop (Caliber Collision in Anaheim, CA) and they estimated a frame swap and bed replacement at $12,000 so they are going to fix it. I think that is pretty close to >25% of the value of the truck, but I guess I’m in the clear!

Hey man, do you know what caused the bed to come up like this after the crash? is it the frame that causes the bed to come up like this in the middle? thinking of getting a rear ended tacoma and wondering if its worth the buy.

How fast was he going when he hit you?

and of course,.... the obvious question (he must have been NPA ~ (not paying attention)
Was a cell phone involved, asking for a friend.....

and YES as others have said,
wipe your hands of it and get another truck.

Just jump really really really hard where it's bent in the bed and it should just go back into place. It's a Yoda it'll be ight. Glad to see no injuries though!
