So, I'm going to swap my side opening Smittybilt RTT to a rear opener and I'm looking at the instructions and it says I will need to cut the mounting rails on each side...but I'm looing at it and I'm wondering why. It seems like keeping those extruding out would both give some good handholds for lifting it onto the roof and also help secure/stabilize the folded out section. Anyone have an opinion on that? I'm talking to a VERY small group of people I know. It's a bit of a headscratcher for me though.

I removed the mounting rails and bolted the tent floor directly to my voodoo rack. Works great.

Screw it, I just did it. I'm not seeing any issues so far. I'm heading out into the wilderness tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

I forgot to come back to this. It works awesome by the way. Far superior to side mounting in every way except it doesn't look as cool :)

Do the rails impact the flip over deck when you set up?

Only in giving it more support. Sometimes the bottom Velcro for the cover gets a little bound up but nothing to worry about
