Can I tap into power from the bed AC outlet?

Howdy,

I want to run a compressor in the bed and I can tap into the power supply for the AC inverter to power the compressor. Is there a DC hot back there I can use?

You can run a dc hot to the rear. Its really easy. I ran a hot to a fuse block in the back so I can run multiple things (bed lights, fridge, etc.) If you run a compressor using your battery, make sure you use a really good ground. I ran into some issues with grounds in the back and ended up running a separate wire from the aux battery to the rear also to make sure I had a solid ground in the back. I was burning up wiring with a trash ground. Ran the separate ground wire from the battery fixed it and everything runs better anyway. I still need to clean up the wiring and then I will post pics on what I did and why.

I'd appreciate some pictures, too. I'm planning some similar wiring and I'm looking at the small cubby near the AC outlet. I'd waterproof it, though. What did you do?
 
I used direct wiring for the compressor I installed in the driver side cubby. I think I'll run hot and ground back for a DC outlet I got from Genesis and then if I need more I'll tap into that and put in a fuse block. This will all be when I get a second battery. I think my truck needs to be about 50# heavier...

So the fuse block is behind the passenger side tail light. Waterproofing isn't really an issue for me. I dont plan on dunking my truck into any deep water crossings. I made some switch panels with doors for the back of the truck. I cut some of the bed to fit them in. I used the truck this whole summer and had a few minor issues with some of the wiring and plan to do some updates and move a few things, along with using some oxygen free wire to help with the conductivity. Its not a lot of work, but just time consuming so that it makes sense and doesnt look like a wiring rats nest when I am done.

I wanted to check out StormRnr's rig at Rack to Roam a few weeks back, but I didn't have time and I ended up having to leave early. I did get one of those sweet Front Runner camping chairs though.

Cool.

I think I've decided to go with another battery on the passenger side and run a fuse block in the rear and one in the front and have all the aux come of of that battery. I just felt like I needed to spend $1000 and add 50#... But seriously.

Hope to catch up sometime in NorNev!

Off grid looks like the best option. Probably go with an Odyssey Extreme and I think that kid is for a group 35. They have a kit with the tray, a charger/isolator and all the wiring.

I love the OGE kit. I didnt get the kit with the wiring because I wanted to wire it a little different. Are you getting the RedArc BC/DC charger also?

I guess so. Unless there is a better option. I do want an AGM battery so something like that is necessary,

So I keep my batteries isolated most of the time and only link them when I have to. I have the redarc Bc/Dc charger. That setup works the best for me. The Blue Sea isolator is nice because you can link/isolate from inside the cab.
