• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

If you're thinking about assembling 6112's:

I've found they don't fit the standard spring compressors. Many have reported the spring is too thick.
Also the type you fit in the vice didn't work for me.

When compressing it, it didn't not give enough room to put the top rubber spacer/grommet. When going farther apart the top of the shock was too thick it would hit the bottom of the clamp.

I ended up having to rent a $500 standing one from Amazon's loaner program. 😑 We'll see how that goes... Maybe I'm just dumb. Anyone pull out off at home with out a standing or wall mounted spring compressor?

I'm interested in how yours turned out? Because this is what I did to mine with the Wescott Pre-Collar Lift

I don't even want to share pictures of what my Dad and I ended up doing to actually compress it enough

All this did was mess up the finish and I couldn't compress it enough. The spring is at the powdercoaters right now. So $120 coat job on $166 springs...

What spring settings did you go with?

I kept the stock ones. They're perfectly fine for what I need. I did add the Wescott Pre-Collar lift, which required compressing them an extra inch or two, and those extra inches turned out to be an incredible amount of force.

I was searching around to see how anybody else is doing it, but I haven't much else. Everybody must be paying pros to do it
