So I just received these head lights and when I received them, I noticed they came with an extra wiring harness. The harness connects to the battery , which then connects to passenger side headlight. I was under the assumption the lights were "plug n play" for TRD models. If anyone has these lights, did you need to use that extra harness, yes, or no?

These lights are all LED, with DRL's and sequential turn signals. These are the headlights specifically for TRD model Tacoma's. Instructions that came with them are extremely vague and does not mention what the extra wiring harness is for.

I do know how to install headlights because I've done it previously, and my current lights were plug'n'play DRL/sequential turns.

I tried asking the seller, and then another seller (for a 2nd opinion) neither one knew anything which is freakin' annoying.

So I'm reaching out to all you Tacoma3G folks for some answers!

I don't have those headlights.

But I'm gonna assume it's a DRL harness.
If you're Tacoma has factory DRL's, you won't need them.

If the DRL wasn't a factory option, then you would use that harness to turn on the DRL's whenever whatever is on. Wherever you tap it to.

TRD O/R, Sport, Limited and Pro won't need it. Will be direct plug and play.
SR5 without TRD DRL LED Headlight will need the harness. But should plug in-line to the existing. Should remain plug-n-play.

Thanks for the reply! I had one other person say he installed that harness then removed it, and didn't it worked with and without it.

But yes, mine is a TRD model. I'll opt to not install it and see what happens.

Have a pic of it? Does it look anything like this?
TRD model, you definitely have no need for it. I have the Morimoto XB. It came with the harness before and I never installed it.
You're good to go!

This has two connections for pos and neg terminals on battery and in-line fuse. Yellow wire splices in to "turn signal" wire. Then two connectors , one to each headlight

Just have them take it back and grab Morimotos. :)

I have these currently on my truck. DRL, Sequential turns. No harness all plug n play. But these DRLs and turn sigs are barely visible during the day.

Don't get me wrong the morimotos are nice, but aesthetically not my style. I'll just install these and not use the harness. 🤔😆

Yeah I'll just see what happens when I don't use the harness. It doesn't make sense to use it. Like they just supply the harness regardless.

Each plug from the headlight should match up to a corresponding plug from the truck.
Sort of silly that it would have a harness.

Unless whoever wrote the instructions has no idea how it works and just assumed you'd need it for both.

I just got confused why the hell it needs to connect to the battery haha

For the Morimotos, it's the DRL.
For Tacomas that don't have the DRL, the battery would power the DRL LED. Then fuse tap something that would trigger it to kick on.

Makes sense I didn't think of that part. Since I have factory DRLs, I assume I won't need them. I got another answer from someone, and said they did not use the harness and it works with OR without it.
