Aftermarket Radio

Has anyone replaced the OEM radio for an aftermarket one? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Have you had any issues with anything? Does the reverse camera still work?

Would there be any major benefit to doing that? From what I can tell, the factory radio is pretty impressive and clean looking. Add some upgraded speakers with an amp and it becomes a solid system.

If anyone has replaced it, I’m interested what the motive was.

You can get any aftermarket with a screen and video in to work with everything your OEM head unit does with extra modules. I'm with Tyler on this, I think the OEM head unit is great, and respeakered my truck around that unit. It was not a nightmare, and can be done for short coin. I spent a little more than short coin, and am very happy with my results.

I know people get frustrated with the voice controls and the GPS, but I use neither (I use waze on my phone), and think the OEM unit is the best head unit I've ever had in a car as a stock unit.....

x3, installed a full JL/Kicker system around the Entune, including a few minor hacks to the system like front camera, rear camera anytime, and park override. I'm perfectly happy with it and like the clean OE look.

The only thing I miss was the more simplified front camera interface of my last Kenwood, the Garmin nav and other features on that one weren't any better than Entune though. When you put in reverse the camera would automatically give you a couple seconds of front view, was great parking or making tight turnarounds.

I bought the whole JBL/Nav console last June and I can’t stand it. The idea that you can have that nice of a factory head unit that is NOT compatible with Apple or android is baffling to me. And the sat nav is terrible too not to mention Scout Link won’t even function . It’s utilizing Garmin maps yet my 10 year old Garmin Nuvi has better traffic maps. And you have to pull the SD card to update it. The voice controls are terrible as well. I am currently looking in to a Kenwood head using with the maestro data link so I can use Apple CarPlay , Waze, google maps and even digital gage functions

I wrote this in another topic but BeatSonic has something that plugs into the stock head on Gen 3’s allowing you to mirror your iPhone. I am able to watch Netflix, ESPN, and any other video streaming app with it along with Waze/Google Maps. For the price it’s way cheaper than getting an aftermarket head unit that still won’t stream videos.

Here’s a picture of a game I was watching on the stock head unit with the beatsonic setup. It might not be the best shot I just screenshotted the video.

This is well put, IMO. I don’t understand it.

Also, I dig your avatar.

I looked at a mirroring device first but i was afraid i would still be handleing my phone while driving. Also, some of the head units are able to tap into your computer and have display gauges for vehicle information. If i do that with the mirror device i have to run an OBD dongle
