1️⃣ Getting Started...
Hi everyone, and thanks in advance for your input.

I'm considering getting a Tacoma and am deciding between getting a certified 3rd gen or a new 4th gen. Wondering if anyone here has any input on this. Ive read about the 3rd gen "issues" of dated/cheap interior and weird seating position. To the people that have lived with a 3rd gen: is it that bad? Am I likely to even notice these "issues"? Planning to take some road trips in it and would like it to be comfortable.

4G is updated obviously but potentially less reliable with the 4 cyl turbo. I plan to keep the truck for a decade and so I want to be sure I love it. Thanks again and I'll also be posting on the 4G forums to get feedback there.

Seat position is easily fixed with seat risers. Turbos usually need to be replaced around 150k miles. Gen4 rear bumper is welded on which makes aftermarket high clearance bumpers a problem.

As a rule in the automotive industry, every new design / model has bugs and issues / problems that are discovered from use and the industry uses the public as test subjects.
The 3G had issues for a couple of years and parts were improved and replaced.
The 4G will have issues as well.

Both engines V6 3G and I4 4G were used before they were placed in the new designed models,...... this does not eliminate problems.
The cooling - electrical - intake and other components placed on and in the "proven" engine block- head - crank / piston required to get these engines into the new design is normally what fails or has issues.

Advise ,... get a 2020 or later 3G that looks / runs well with a great service record.
It will hold its value for years and should treat you well if you do the same.
10 years later IF the 4G is still around (doubtful) it should have its bugs worked out.
