• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

2024 Tacoma Revealed! Here's Everything About It.

It looks extremely bloated just like the new tundra. Front bumper is disgusting and those arches look like they'll be a problem in the long run for running larger tires with their lower height. It'll probably weigh a LOT more than the current gen too. Meh. Guess we will have to wait for the...

    Suspension creak/noise

I usually get a creak from my new leaf springs in the back when the U-bolts need to be retorqued. Usually that solves it for me, but I'm also running a different setup than stock. I've heard of the cab mount making noise as well or the bed bolts also needing retightening. All things you can...

Maintenance I did the my dumbest dumb in my 10 years of working on trucks….

Can you do my trans service next? Haha! We all make mistakes. Sometimes wrenching on the truck is a good way to de-stress and feel more positive. I know I like working on my vehicles, even if I'm in a bad mood it cheers me up. Except when it's being a pain in the ass, but then the success of...

What will my truck look like with 285/75r15 0 offset.

Ooooh, my bad! The truck looks good at that height, definitely. Bigger tires later on will look and feel much better. What kind of spacers did you install?
  10. itsthex

    You guys were right!!

He sounded reasonable from his response but came from a place that didn't quite understand the upgrades you had, I believe. The "extractor pipes" and the U exhaust that removes all the cats improves power by itself. Equivalent to something like bolting on aftermarket headers, if not more...
  11. itsthex

What will my truck look like with 285/75r15 0 offset.

Not to bring you down, but 3" spacers would be a terrible idea. With wheels at 0 offset, that puts you at -75mm effective offset (100mm more offset than the factory +25 wheel) which is in the territory of wheel that is just straight non-functional. The extra strain from that much offset would...

4.88's or 5.29's for your Tacoma?

This is really interesting. Maybe it has something to do with the built-in speed limiter? Or do you just run out of power and it wont accelerate?

Millennials Really Want A Fully Electric Toyota Tacoma, Says Survey

Yeah I still don't see a way around fuel in that sense. I mean, if you installed a bunch of solar panels maybe you could get away with it. Perhaps a hood made of solar panels.. and roof.. and tonneau cover... Hahaha.

To tune or not to tune

So it really depends! If you're happy with it, why change it? But: When you decide to go even bigger tires or add weight to the truck, the throttle response and power may feel more hindered. I added skinny 33's to my truck and noted a difference in the way it drove and factored in that I tow a...

255/80/17 Nitto Recon Grapplers on a lifted TRD Sport w/ Stock Wheels

Looks amazing! Pizza cutters are the way to go for sure. Currently running 255/85r16. From my experience (and expiriments) - It's safe to say you can go up to 0mm offset on a 7 inch wide wheel with this tire size with minimal issue. My only problem was slight rubbing on the innermost edge of...

I think this one is my favorite from my most recent trip up to Lytle Creek after installing all the new suspension. Shot on a Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm @ 50mm, f14, 1/125. I had my 50mm prime with me but sometimes the zoom is just easier. I will say I'm not the biggest fan of the lens...

    Traveler trailer towing

I tow a Winnebago Hike 171DB coming in at about 4200 gvwr and it tows like a dream. Don't expect to have a ton of power to accelerate hard but theres plenty of torque to get you moving down the road and carry good speed. I've towed at 80 smoothly before (not that you should!!) but usually keep...

What have you done to, or with, your Tacoma today?

Finally got around to installing my 33" skinnyboi spare! Couple of whacks on the brackets and a shimmy towards the back of the truck and she sits nearly flush. Could probably have thrown in a few more whacks but i don't imagine 1" is going to make a ton of difference in clearance. She's tucked!

  38. itsthex

    Tacoma Truck Bed Tents

I think this is a cool option. I just recently learned about the over-bed-only version without a tent floor and am considering it. Especially with your photos. You mentioned different size tents; do you have the 5ft or 6ft bed version of your truck? In-bed!
  39. itsthex

    Tacoma Truck Bed Tents

I definitely will! I think it will be a while before I go the route of bed-tent, but we will see. With regards...

Well, don't they still have the benefit being up off the ground? Sure, you're not 6 feet up, but at least you're not on the dirt. E85 will not damage a stock fuel system. I'm running E85 in a car from the 90s with nearly 100% factory fuel system, aside from a fuel pump upgrade and new injectors. Both of which work and are made for standard unleaded fuels. Pump E85 is manufactured and has additives for lubricity to ensure...

Spring Theory: An Intro To Rates, Height, Preload and Ultimately: Lift!

On a basic level, being "maxed out" on preload with the bilstein shocks is not necessarily a bad thing. The only time this would be a problem is if you're running too heavy for the current spring rate (IE: You're expecting 2.5" of lift but only getting 2" because the vehicle is heavier than...

Offset will not solve your issue. The negative offset in this case is better as it creates a smaller wheel sweep radius and actually pulls the tire in giving you more turn with less actual area needed for the wheel to move through.
