• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

255/80/17 Nitto Recon Grapplers on a lifted TRD Sport w/ Stock Wheels

Thanks! I installed elka IFS 2.0 coilovers/rear struts, and dobinsons mid range pack (L59-111-R) in the back. Initially it was about 2.5” in front and 3” unloaded in rear (these leaf packs are rated for 2.25” when loaded). Now after everything has settled, it’s closer to 2 in front and 2.5 in rear.

255/80/17 Nitto Recon Grapplers on a lifted TRD Sport w/ Stock Wheels

Sweet, thanks for the info and recommendations! I still have my spacers, and may give them another go when I have time to mount them, test drive, and deal with any trimming. For now, I’m enjoying the look and ride with the tall boys. Btw I’ve def seen photos of your truck before, your wheel...

Let's see your current favorite photo of your truck, photography-wise 📸

I bought a 50mm prime lense to play with depth of field. Still don’t really know what I’m doing. Made it 10 pages into a dslr photography for dummies book and got distracted with life stuff. I try not to go too heavy in Lightroom. My rule of thumb is to edit to the mood when I was there taking...

Good to know, thanks Mike. Do you recommend buying/borrowing the harness to recalibrate, or just having the dealership do it? (Un)Fortunately, my truck has no say when it comes to shift decisions—it’s all up to this granny shifter

255/80/17 Nitto Recon Grapplers on a lifted TRD Sport w/ Stock Wheels

Update. Couple weeks and a thousand miles in, loving the tires and ride. A couple expectations and realities: E1-Ride would be much harsher on E rated tires. R1-No noticeable difference, but my underloaded leaf packs ride a bit harsh at baseline so I’m used to that. E2-I would need to do...

New Wheels/tires and a Leveling kit

Ah no, mixed messages. I was referring to how the billstein shocks in your third to last image have those different rings towards the bottom. I thought those were to put the perch at different heights to change the preload/lift of the shock. Maybe it's just the struts with threaded shock bodies...

New Wheels/tires and a Leveling kit

I see I see. It seems like it’s similar to how the bilsteins have different notches for height and some struts have threads to adjust the preload collar. Although I wonder if Toyota engineers were planning on more preload being added to the coils when they designed the TRD pro shock…

New Wheels/tires and a Leveling kit

I think that those three inch block lifts can run you into trouble up front (and in the rear, for different reasons). Since you are not changing the overall excursion of your front shock, the spacer block can cause it to bind. I forget if you lose down travel or up, but my understanding is...

@drizzoh mounts both look the same, I don’t see fresh metal scraping or rusting, and the bushings look okay. The creak is loudest and felt the harshest with my hand on the spring of the coilover. I’m also now getting body roll when turning right and loading the driver side coilover. The...

Help! A squeak! Driver front wheel well

I’m not sure the collar is loose, I mean to say that it just may need more preload, though I went full droop today and there wasn’t any play in the spring so that idea may be null. I did find this in a Chevy Colorado Forum: this creak is exactly the sound I get… Original link...

Help! A squeak! Driver front wheel well

Spent some time under the truck with my old EMS stethoscope and a screw driver listening and feeling while my kid brother jumped on the truck for a half hour. Jaja it did go away for the first fifteen seconds of my drive this morning, and then came back. I would love for that magic to happen and it disappear. I did swap out the needle bearing. I tried throwing it in 4Hi which didn’t change the sound either. How would I isolate the tie rod or CV to...

Help! anybody here had to replace a front driver's side transaxle needle bearing with a bronze bushing?

Depending on the cost of the puller and the value of your time, you could consider having a shop do it. I went that route and it saved me the headache of worrying about having extra seals or fluid on hand. I think it was sub $200 said and done (…and warranteed).

Help! A squeak! Driver front wheel well

Will a 2.5 inch lift with zero-offset wheels with 33’s cause rubbing without trimming?

Ok great to know, thank you. I tried to guesstimate the scrub of the tire by watching the current setup, but adding an inch and a half to each side is definitely cutting it close. I’ll pull the spacers next week for sure.

    Introduction

    Welcome! Great truck
  55. ct__tacoma

Will a 2.5 inch lift with zero-offset wheels with 33’s cause rubbing without trimming?

What’s the offset of the ‘20 pro wheel? +4mm? Curious if I should remove my wheel spacers before I put larger tires on. The sport wheel is +30 so with spacers I’m at -1.75. Seems like negligible amount but rather prepare to fight the red locktite ahead of time if I do need to pull them.

Right on. My ridge grapplers have almost a mechanical sounding whirl to me rather than a mud terrain roar. It’s not horrible in the cab but I’m also running a relatively smaller size. Ok *almost unscathed Jaja. You’ve got the makings of a Toyota fleet! So I’ve heard of the 7th injector but I don’t think I fully understand what it does. Is it adding fuel to the air before it hits the cylinders? Do you need forced induction to use it?

    Issue(s) with tire pressure?

Had the same problem. Ultimately had a screw in it. Would slowly drain until it reached equilibrium, usually around 26 psi. Help! Hum/grinding sound when applying gas at highway speeds

I get something similar when I decel through the mid to low 60’s sometimes. I believe mine comes from the fact that I tend to have my leaf packs under loaded which causes the rear driveshaft angle to be off by a degree or two. When I have some weight in the bed it goes away.
