• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

Jeep Wrangler JL with a V8

As much as I hate to say it, I wouldn't be shocked if the 4th gen taco more closely resembled the Honda truck. I did read that the the land cruiser may be re-imaged as a "budget friendly" (what ever that means) dedicated 4x4 to compete with the new bronco and jeep. Might be cool but guessing it...

Jeep Wrangler JL with a V8

I like it! I don't know if would actually come to fruition but its good to see big auto companies at least thinking about making something new and cool. I love Toyota 4x4s but I don't think they've ever done anything for enthusiasts?

    Lord Humongous's Tow-coma

Had to take the Taco down to the dealer today. CEL came on for a knock sensor short and the trans went into a weird limp mode. Turns out a pack rat ate through the wiring underneath the intake manifold and caused about $2k in damage. The fix requires pulling the intake off just to access the...

What does everyone use for chainsaw?

For a "truck saw" I highly recommend the Silky Katanboy. It's amazing how fast it cuts! If you're harvesting wood there's no replacing the gas chain saw. http://www.silkysaws.com/Silky_Saws/Folding-Straight_2/KATANABOY-with-500-extra-large-teeth#sthash.3pWOHJA7.dpbs

I haven't seen the Itasca but I've actually seen a few Toyota dolphins still on the road. Straight up 22re in that big b!tc# lol. If you keep your eyes peeled you will see a dirty hippy driving one at about 15mph in the uphill passing lane. Usually between 30-40 suitcases and duffle bags...

    Atkinson Cycle?

I don't belive I've ever felt it kick in or out. The 2GR FKS isn't a true atkinson cycle. The variable valve timing changes the compression to allow the engine to run more efficiently under minimal load like while idling or at cruising speed. I think the idea is you shouldn't notice it. If you...

I've been looking around Phoenix for Stadium truck/buggy racing and have only found one track. They have way too many rules so I lost interest immediately lol. I've thought about crawler to play around with at camp sites. I'd love to build something vs ready to run. Any recommendations on a...

I was thinking about getting back into 1:8 or 1:10 track racing but it seems likes the hobby is pretty much dead here in Phoenix. Its been 25 years since ive turned on the RC10T2 lol.

Help! 2020 Tacoma Frontend Popping Noise

Aside from what others have mentioned I'd check the front body mounts. Mine when bad quickly due to them being installed poorly from the factory. I replaced them with energy suspension poly bushings which should last forever. Old bushings vs new. Only 25k miles when I swapped them. No more...

    Lord Humongous's Tow-coma

The whole job took me about 5 hours but went super slow on the welding to prevent the spindles from warping. If you're referring to just the brakes, that took less than an hour to swap rotors and pads. I spent more time looking for the right size bolt to get the old rotors off than actually...

  34. Lord Humongous

    Lord Humongous's Tow-coma

Yes, the kit consists of new rotors and pads. Pretty simple swap. Never say never but I don't think I'm going to do the big brake upgrade. I never thought the stock brakes were too bad even with big tires and a trailer behind the truck. This kit seems more than adequate for my needs.

Taking a small break from the trailer build for some truck upgrades. We're planning on a Colorado trip in September and hopefully some good 4 wheeling which is prompting the upgrades. I built some bed stiffeners out of 3/8 bar and a few 1/4 corner gussets this morning. Latter in the week I...

I got the rear stabilizer/ lift jacks installed today. They are rated at 3k lbs a piece and pipe mount so they can swivel up out of the way like the front jack. I made some brackets out of 3/16 plate so the pressure of the jacks would have more to press against than just the 1/8" outer frame...

    Future of toyota 4x4s?

https://www.gearpatrol.com/cars/a689949/new-toyota-land-cruiser-tundra-details/ Not really any details here but still interesting. Maybe a new taco for 2024, and possibly a more affordable dedicated 4x4 Land Cruiser coming to compete with Jeep and the Ford Bronco.

Little more work getting done. I made some brackets for the 8 foot 270 degree awning and started work on the slides. I have to 2 sets of 56" heavy duty slides that should make for a nice roll out kitchen setup. I figure it would be easier to build these before putting the deck in.
