• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    ALSD in 4wd on Sport

Agree with Jeepnik. To understand all this, you'll need to study the mechanics of four wheel drive, which isn't actually all four wheels driving 😎. Nor would you want it to be. Turning would be very difficult, and would eat up tires and wear out or just break drive train parts. The open...

How about just doing one small thing every day, building a habit. Every two months add another one. I don't feel like answering phone calls at night. Also don't feel like getting up and operating on some poor dying soul every morning. But years of habit building the feelings just simply don't...

Kinda funny, but the Tacoma doings on ih8mud are minimal. TW sucks, and so this is still my go to for the wealth of information contained in the build threads and other aspects. 2022 Tacoma Off-Rd Regearing

Just had mine done with Yukon's. Local guy said his experience with Nitro's (by far the most talked about and I think the most common) have a "whirring" sound after a few thousand miles. Can't give you a long term review, but the 5.29's do make the truck drive quite differently, and I'm very...

Whistling sound from rear of truck while rear window open at 20mph+

Hard noise to describe, eh? Is it wind whistling? If so, perfectly normal. Is it mechanical (metal on metal)? That's not normal, and you probably need to tighten your bed rails, one of the bed bolts, or something in the trim category.
  22. Biohazard

New to the Tacoma world, but not the Toyota world.

Yeah, welcome to the club. Most of us that stick around in our Tacomas long enough get at least a tune, and many (myself included) regear. A tune should fix most of your issues.

    Ineos Grenadier

Looks like this summer for the U.K., this fall into early 2024 for USA deliveries. They've got some USA details to work out, and a service network to handle. But INEOS seems to have the need infrastructure and private ownership to get that kind of thing done quickly.

    Hello from Connecticut

Welcome. Glad to have you in the Tacoma club. Lots of suspension options out there. I'd set a budget: minimum parts cost is about $700, labor about $700-1200, and you can drop $6000 on just suspension parts with short arms. Long arm suspension for high speed off-road desert/sand type stuff will...

Only other consideration is miles per set of tires. You'll get more miles from an E rated tire on our light trucks. I've already put 20,000 on my General Grabber X3's, and probably have another 15,000 at least.
  29. Biohazard

Reference Ask a beginner question, get a serious answer!

If you wear out the stock shocks it won't be due to tires. Brake wear and tear is due to how aggressive you mash on that brake pedal. Bigger tires and heavier tires will require more braking pressure to stop within the same distance, and will increase the amount of distance you travel at...

    Traveler trailer towing

I think you've got too small a truck for what you're using it for. I just regeared my 2020 auto on 33's with a bunch of overlanding gear, and while it's way better in town and on the highway, it still struggles a good bit at 70mph plus and I only went from 11mpg to 13. Performance LT Suspension Capabilities

I think the suspension issues are negligible with the increased power. If you're going to have problems, it will be with the drivetrain (axle shafts, driveshafts, transmission, transfer case, differential gears, etc.). The suspension stress comes from the forces during suspension cycling (which...

    Undercoat and Ceramic Coating

So I went cheap and used Turtle Wax's ceramic spray coating. Goes on quick, lasts as long or longer than a regular carnauba wax job, and dirt falls right off with usually just a quick spray afterwards. Washing still required for grime, but for $30-40 per bottle which does 5 or 6 total vehicle...
