• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    Garmin Overlander Navigation

Thats the biggest part of the garmin that i like. You just use it as a gps receiver and dont need another GPS to have GPS on your ipad. Then also the SOS feature is nice.. Just pair with bluetooth and you will have GPS wherever you go. I just run a wifi only ipad.

iPad, garmin inreach with gaia is the best way to go IMO.

    Wheel spec confusion

Depends on the look you want and how willing to cut into your truck you are. I run the scs -38's and they stick out quite a bit. It doesnt sound like much -10 to -38 but ive ran both and its quite significant

Pro Grill, What a difference !

Still love these grills. Had mine before i even recieved my truck. My toyota dealer wont sell them to customers without being able to prove a trd pro VIN. Luckily there are the knock offs now though. Truck looks great!

    Advice

Lift and reasonably sized tires (maybe 275/70's) and avoid the costs of regearing and tuning. If youre looking to use it and not really abuse it. That being said if you lift it and tires, you should be considering armor if youre going to be tackling more obstacles. Thats my two cents. Or else...

*NOTE* I dont know if there is an offset or backspacing difference between the TRD sport & TRD offroad. Mine is a sport. You might hit the stock UCA.

    Tire Size Fitment and Lift

I think with that tire size you will be very close to your control arm so you may actually need a spacer to get away from that. It may juuust clear but its going to be very close. That being said i would do a cab mount chop anyways. You may rub when turning and articulating. I dont personally...

    Tail Lights

The only thing i found was the plugs are a little cheap. Have not had any issues with them yet but was a little disappointed. But for the money they're great. I actually bought a second set after destroying one of mine. So if anyone finds themselves needing a drivers side taillight. Im your guy!

    Tail Lights

The cali raised ones are pretty good bang for your buck! They light up nice in my opinion.

    2021 Tacoma "special editions"

I feel like toyota could learn so much from the overlanding/offroading community and come up with some wicked ideas that people would actually love. Trail edition seems a little misleading here ?‍♂️

What's in your bed /controlling your cargo?

I just take my girlfriend with me and she makes sure we overpack so the bed is full and nothing has a chance to roll around. ? But actually, tie down points on the total chaos bed stiffeners and the factory bed rail tie downs work perfect.

    Winches under a Grand

I second what Tyler said. All my buddies run smitties and never had an issue.
  54. dakotaburkholder

    Stance?

I’m sure you can go more aggressive without long travel and spacers, I haven’t really looked. But here is my setup running 35x12.5’s with a -38 ET & no spacers. If you don’t want everything on the road ending up on the side of your truck I 10/10 do not recommend this haha.

    Lift kits

My only advice from my own experiences is that the hobby escalates quickly. I ran the OME kit with aal and spc uca's for about a year. As i added weight i ended up upgrading the rear. It just kept on escalating to the point where i regretted not going to an extended travel setup. I read the...
