• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

    It’s official, I’m a homeowner (camper photos)

Lots of flat top semis and 1 tons have big wings to help pulling big trailers. You dont need that but something small might help ya break the bold face front.

    It’s official, I’m a homeowner (camper photos)

Curious, have you considered doing a "wing" on top of your roof rack to aid in air flow over the camper. a gradual slope up to the increased height vs the blunt face would definitely help on the highway. Might be worth a test to see if you can gain a mile or two back per.

Did some test cycling tonight with the new upper link and the track bar tacked in. I took the frame side bracket and welded it to a much larger plate that I will be welding to the frame. While the joints see a direct load, the bracket will try and twist and turn and pull. So to help fight...

Not at this time. We haven't found anything where ifs is deciding factor. Maybe once that's the case. Until then just beefing up front. It's on coilovers, just need a good steering setup.

Hopefully we will be on weight come the weekend. Vertical separation axle side is on the low end, but that's why we're running the inch and a quarter joints and I will be bracing the upper mount quite a bit. The leverage will definitely be something I have to keep an eye on, but I needed the...

    Running 37s because I’m dumb

I less you wheel where undercuts and ledges are real big, you won't get any real gain from the 37s. For most folks it's just more.headache. And looks cool
  19. WarFabArmor

    Running 37s because I’m dumb

Would be nice if someone offered the 571 or whatever the 8" rear is offered in for the front. That ratio would really allow 37 to be plausible as a good road tire. Down at sea level or with boost, the 529 would be fine. Just needs a little deeper to be right, imo.
  20. WarFabArmor

    Running 37s because I’m dumb

I say don't. Not for the weight you have and traveling around. 35s are best gearing at highway speeds with 529. Can't imagine with weight. Just be patient. Save for a big build and do them once you settle down.

Help! Steering wheel shift over bumps, clunking noise

Im not sure ability with the additional size of the tundra rack, id have to look. Otherwise, off top of my head, it could be positioned somehwere in front of the x member and be guarded by the skid, but that would take some modifying to the xmember to allow to fit. But to be honest, i just dont...

Help! Steering wheel shift over bumps, clunking noise

Upgrade for steering rack? The tundra rack is the "simplest" setup. Theres a lot to it, basikbiker was selling pre machined setups for cheaper than solo, but not sure if they are still doing that. Hes been real rough on his. Only other upgrade options are full hydro, which is about same...

    Brake Upgrades...

As far as off track vs track racing. You may not change individual parts and pieces to dial the setup like on track, but you definitely dial the car differently. Different tires, prop valves, masters, etc. All dependant on what you're running and what you're willing or not willing to change.

Another thing to keep in mind specifically as it applies to cross-drilled rotors is the cooling effect. Brake Upgrades...

Race cars and off-road competition vehicle rarely use the same rotors race after race for 50k+ miles. A lot of that is pad design and material as well. Performance and longevity are not two things that generally go hand in hand. They aren't mutually exclusive, but for road vehicle...

Help! Steering wheel shift over bumps, clunking noise

Nice already machined down. Sucks because it is a lot of changing to still have only a marginally better stock rack. The hydro assist setups added to a steering rack is the way to go, if not going full hydro IMHO. And not terrible to fab up. Just a pain to fit.

Powerstop makes great stuff. Used them on a few rigs, and they are to trucks what EBC is to motorcycles. For towing specific applications, I like the slotted setup. Im not much for drilled, as they tend to crack between the holes, but i realize getting JUST slotted is super hard. For offroad...

    Gas mileage—24?!?!?

Location, gear on the truck, gears in the truck, I'll play a factor. Keep in mind with or without gears, the truck will display a miscalculated or incorrect fuel economy number, as the speedo and everything is based off of wheel speed sensors, therefore different gears don't change it, and it...

    Building an “offroad” bed

Just keep in mind, the more space, the more motor you need to fill it. Like in a shop. Everyone gets two tanks but uses one pump, when really the extra pump would help more. Depends on your usage, but i liked the additional air. If nothing more than when filling up, hit the compressor as...

    Building an “offroad” bed

Yeah, when folks do specific tubing for it it can get a little goofy looking. But we've made bumpers and sliders into air tanks. Really you would just try to maximize the capacity by making all of the bad structure one open piece. then no one is the wiser that it is an air tank, and a regulator...

a dual tri-4 setup eliminates side to side movement by the orientation of the links. Fab Fours’ massive Tacoma, what do you guys think?

Fair enough. The Wrangler platform definitely holds itself to quick and easy modifications for sure. I would argue that to really run 37s on a JL, there's still a ton of work to be done. Cat axle setup aluminum knuckles that rival the weakness of what the Tacoma comes with, and I still would...
