• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

Greetings all!

I finally sacked up and ditched my little 4-banger Fusion for a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. To be perfectly honest, not sure why I didn't do it sooner.

For right now this is my daily driver, but it gives me the freedom to go do some weekend warrior type glamping shit, and that's all I need it for at this point. The truck is completely stock save some LED interior, license plate and reverse lighting. Naturally this build will evolve, because browsing this forum is bad for my wallet. I'll eventually lift it and throw some bigger tires, cold air intake, roof and bed racks, and an OV tune on it. First most important mod will be getting 5.29 gears for it, as this thing has about the same amount of balls as a neutered racoon.

I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing in the love for this rugged little truck. Now enough of my rambling, here's some obligatory truck porn. The second pic is with an app called HUJI, and if that doesn't make my love of film photography obvious... well, then nothing will.

Welcome and congrats on the truck!!

Another short update, haven't had much time to work on this thing. Work has been nuts since the pandemic hit, so most of my spare time has been spent sleeping. Today was nice enough to get out and plastidip the rear chrome bumper caps. I hate chrome with a passion and believe it only has two places: vintage cars and engine compartments. This is honestly the easiest thing I think I have ever done. A couple of the retainers broke when I attempted to pop them out, but the local auto store has a decent selection of plastic pushpins so I can find replacements there. Behold: a less shiny backend. Next step? Debadge it and PlastiDip/replace the ugly chrome grille up front.

Another couple quick mods over the weekend here, and when I say weekend, I mean the last 2 weeks. Quarantine is bad for my pocket for sure. Plastidipped the grille, added some WeatherTech vent shields, and some new taillights courtesy of TacomaBeast. Not pictured is the remote start and Meso GasHole.

Trying to think of what I want to do next. Hopped on the Meso switch drop, so I now have the center console switch panel with nothing to wire to it. My thoughts are... if I'm going to wire lights, it's going to be all at once so it's one and done. I may start amassing my collection so when I finally get it all, I can knock it out in one shot. Any ideas for my next venture? My squirrel brain can't decide on one or the other.

I was thinking about picking up the OVTune software and 3.5L Tacoma add-on, but because I am a newbie at this, I had some hesitations. If the Tacoma add on is basically plug and flash, then I will consider it but I'm not quite knowledgeable enough to be dicking around with the shift points and whatnot.
