New member here, thank you. I searched previous posts before asking and only came up with discussions on fluids.

Is the transfer case totally gear driven or gear and chain driven? I know Toyota went to gear and chain in the early to mid 90’s. I could not find much information on the web. Thank you.

Not 100% sure but I believe they are gear driven.

lol I’ve had mine out but never apart yet.
 
Low range is a 4 pinion planetary gear set and the front output is chain driven.
