Tailgate bushing wear

TacoTRD21

2️⃣ Bronze
Noticed the left hand cable is slack ( not picking up any weight of the tailgate in the open/down position ) while the right hand cable is taut on my '21 TRD OR DC.
Is this a sign that the bushing on TG's right side is worn and needs replacing ? I could see no adjustment means at cable attachment points. Missing something here?Gate still has damping during openning sequence and lines up w/o any uneven gaps with bed and hard tonneau cover when closed, Any advice are welcome.

Have you checked to see if the left-hand cable has stretched? I think that would be the most likely cause. Try swapping the driver's side and passenger's side cable and see if it follows the cable or the side of the truck.

Let us know what you find by swapping the cables. That would be the first thing I would try.

Swapped the cables today and noticed quiet an improvement. The previously slack left side of tailgate in much less noticeable and though not taut but cable is stretched straight. Also measured both cables' length ( norminal 12" ), perhaps 1/8" difference. Not going to investigate further, happy with the result of the swap. Much thanks Bottman.
