I love how light weight my Softtopper but it is lacking in valuable real estate. I looked for a bed rack that would accommodate a Softtopper but didn’t find anything I really liked. I found the Mobtown rack after and in hindsight I would have to say the Mobtown rack is what I’m looking for. However this is a super light weight set up if you’re interested.
this is the stock US Steel universal ladder rack. Very high. I originally was going to pick up a canoe that didn’t happen.
I rolled around with my gearbox on for a bit but it’s much too high.
All of the elements of the rack are separate to allow for additional adjustments. I cut 7 inches out of the uprights.
Two uprights cut to size and tucked under the rail of the Softtopper.
Uprights and Crossmembers adjusted and in place.
with a 16 cubic ft Yakima gearbox on the rack I had about 24 inches of open space.
enter skinny Amazon rack. It worked for my trip to Pensacola, but it broke. Looking at the Yakima Skinny warrior.
This is a close up of how I tied the rack to the bed. Originally the rack is designed to slide under a heavy topper. I didn’t trust the Softtopper to keep it down.
thanks for looking guys. Hopefully it’s a starting point for someone.
