Social Distancing Done Right

So right as all the self-quarantining and social distancing stuff due to coronavirus started I was moving out of my apartment in California to move to Texas for a new job. With no home and no job for the next few weeks, I figured a roadtrip through virtually empty National and State Parks would be perfect!

Stop 1: Big Sur, CA

2: Yosemite, CA

Good for you man. Perfect timing. Enjoy the open road. If I could leave I would, but I have to stick around for work.

Where you headed to? What's your route?

I started out from the Los Angeles area and drove up the PCH to Big Sur before heading over to Yosemite. Ultimately the plan is to get to Dallas but I am playing it all by ear for a couple weeks. Once California shut down all the campgrounds in Yosemite I had to move on. Went through Vegas, then on to Utah yesterday, and spent today in Bryce Canyon. Going through Zion tomorrow before either heading south into Arizona or potentially driving all the way up to Yellowstone.

Stop 3: Bryce Canyon, UT

Go north. Forget AZ. I just read that National Parks are waving all their fees. If be headed for Yellowstone for sure.

That’s what I was thinking until I found that the majority of the roads through Yellowstone are closed. Only the road through the North gate is open but the main loop to see the majority of the features is closed.
I also have a National Parks pass for the whole year so even after the coronavirus has blown over I wont have to worry about park fees.

We have the parks pass as well, totally worth it.

I guess it depends on how much time you have. I'd be roaming all over before dropping south to TX.

Today didn’t start out great... but we’re back on the road without a scratch on the Taco!

I was driving across the mountains from Cedar City, Utah when a snow storm came through. On the way down a we came around a blind corner where a semi-truck driver, on his was up, had stopped in the middle of the road to put chains on. He was kneeling down on his drivers side fixing the chains. Basically my two options were to run the guy over or go off the side. Fortunately, I was able to slow enough down the hill to ease into the softer snow and lay down on the side. Neither my wife, nor I got hurt, and we were able to get towed out after a few hours. With minimal damage to the truck we were able to carry on our way by mid afternoon!
