Hello
I am new to this forum and bought a 2004 Tacoma from a one owner in PA. The guy told me the Fran was not bad but it got here yesterday and the back 1/3 of the frame needs to be replaced. Basically from the spring mount in the front to the bumper. The truck runs perfect and shifts great but when I drove it yesterday just a few miles one of the springs broke. None of the shops I work with want to touch it. So I am looking for advice
Should I just send to an auction ?
Where can you source a frame and what would it cost to replace the whole frame ?
Or can you just replace rear half ?
Motor has 180 and runs excellent new catalytic and entire exhaust from manifolds back body is in great shape zero rust inside needs a overhaul.

Any help would be much appreciated

Rough spot to be in. With that much rust, you're better off salvaging and using the money to buy something else in my opinion.

But if you want to fix it, it'll be far more than "just the frame." You'll have body mount bolts that shear off, gas tank parts that will break, suspension and drivetrain components that need replacing, electrical issues, etc. Fixing it will require a "frame off restoration," as the saying goes. Wouldn't be the way I'd spend my money.

YIKES! Was this thing used as a oyster dredge?

Spent 17 years in PA and the older guy did not get the frame replacement it’s odd the front is fine it’s just the back 5 feet of the frame. The motor runs perfect

BTW: 2004 is not a 3rd gen, thirds started in 2016. Not that the folks around here are not happy to help. I just wanted to point that out as your title indicated it was a third. First gen was from 1995 to 2003, second was from 2004 to 2015 and thirds go from 2016 forward.

Also, side note: "In November 2016, Toyota USA settled a class action suit over frame rust, agreeing to inspect and if necessary replace rusted frames on 2005–2010 model year Tacomas, 2007–2008 MY Tundras, and 2005–2008 MY Sequoias in the US and its territories."

You can go to Toyota and see if they will work with you to have the frame replaced at a discounted rate. a new frame if I remember right is around 10 to 15k
