This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Do you even need to reinstall it when you install a rack? Ive never had it off so I'm not sure if it's needed besides covering up the roof seam. Plan on getting a roof rack soon and was planning out the install
Thanks!

Just make sure and I emphasize make sure to seal the holes well with silicone (where the bolts will screw into the roof) don’t be to gentle with the silicone lol it’s better to be safe then sorry but I havnt had any issues and I did my buddy’s and he hasn’t had any issues ether and it’s been a while with rain, dirt etc. ? I hope that helps

You don’t need to have it and you wouldn’t notice it wasn’t there unless you looked for it, I put mine back in just because but yeah make sure to put silicone for the screw holes

Yeah I watched the @Victory4x4 install video and they said that too. I guess I'll see whats under there and then decide, hopefully they didn't slack and miss spots when the robots painted it lol

I trimmed mine around the brackets and re-installed it, but I really don't think it's needed.

Good cause I ordered my roof rack from you guys last week and didn't want to cut it all up

When I installed the roof rack, I cut the strip and just popped the pieces back in, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I’ve seen quite a few people just leave it out.
