• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

Rolling backwards after stalling.

Still looking for an answer to this?
Are we one stall away from going off a cliff?

Damn.
That was painful to watch.

Unfortunately I have no answer for you.

I am not sure how that happened either. Since the Tacomas now come with a ton of safety features I would assume the brakes would jump in after the engine stalls. That also is a gen 3 forerunner which are known for being extremely reliable especially for offroading. My guess is it was just one of those rare occurrences where the torque converter blew out from stepping on the gas for so long. I would assume newer models are safer than this and you should be fine especially if you keep up with services.

Something else to point out that is related to this, there have been a ton of recalls on a variety of Toyotas the past year or so, primarily the Tacoma. The recall is because of a fuel pump failure on 2018-2019 models. I have read some articles that some Tacomas have stalled on the freeway and the brakes were slammed, which obviously caused a ton of accidents. I got a notice about it in the mail a month or so ago. If you or people reading this forum have not received one, here is the link just in case:
