Howdy, bought my second Tacoma, 5 months ago, Black, 2017 Trd Sport , longbed. I need a dive from you pros, I don’t have an unlimited budget, but would like to start, in order, suspension, 2-4 inch, tires next, really wanna stay in like a 31, inch or so, and I live at the beach, Eact Coast, so need more sandy gear. I have been looking at ICon, and Fox, also Toy o parts for suspension lift. I have been to 2 shops, both have said that my model Tacoma is a tough fit. Would like to hear from you all. Thank u

31.5” will fit with no lift or rub, I had those on my truck before lift with no issues
Thing to keep in mind, bigger tires need a re gear and one of the best mods I have done. Not cheap but if you going even to a 33, regear will definitely help with lag and a lot of back nd forth shifting
Also with 33’s is the cab mount chop. Ome have some nice setups for suspens as well. And with you, undercoating, these trucks have no rust protection underneath
I lived out in East Hampton for a long time and these things rust in the driveway on the ocean

Tires: 31" (265/75r17) tires should fit with no problem and no lift. If you go to 33's 285/75r16 or 285/70r17, you would need a lift (see below). I have 33's and only tire rub was as full lock and extreme tire compression while off-road. to achieve this you do need to have alignment adjusted outside factory spec by pushing the wheel forward a bit. I have this with no wear issues. To avoid any rubbing issues 100% stick to 31" tires or cab mount chop (CMC).

Lift: There are may options for you desired height... if you are trying to keep to a budget try OME or Bilstein adjustable shocks... both options installed are around $1000. If you go with king, icon, fox, you will start around 2500.

I actually have 265 75 17 now, a decent toyo tire, I am assuming stock

This would be almost a 35" tire, I would say yes you need a lift and probably a Cab Mount Chop (CMC). Good luck

That would most definitely require a lot of work. By work I mean cutting, trimming, hammering, welding.....

Largest without a lift is pretty much the 265/75/16 range you are running. Even with a small lift you will likely rub with anything a bit larger. It's just the way these trucks are designed.
