Hello guys, after a terrible used car buying experience five years ago, I'm cautious not to repeat the same mistakes as I consider changing my car. Currently, I own a 2010 MERCEDES-BENZ c300, which has been challenging. Now, I'm contemplating buying a used 2018 Toyota Tacoma I found online, but I'm unsure, so I’m seeking your advice.
A friend recommended the seller, as he had a positive experience purchasing a used car from him. However, 2 days ago, the seller mentioned another buyer offering a higher price for the Tacoma. Despite having the money with me, the pressure he’s mounting makes me suspicious of his actions.

I seek your advice on how to make an informed decision. What areas should I inspect, and what questions can I ask the seller to ascertain the car's true condition? The car has slightly over 100,000 miles and it’s very neat. What other points do you suggest taking into consideration?

$25k is a good deal. I'd say that's pretty good. The other guy may be offering a little more than asking but with requests. Like to hold it until he can get his stuff in line.

Check for mechanical issues. Accident report. Damage history. How many owners. Title?
Frame rust? Take it for a drive and see if you hear anything out of the usual.
Take someone who actually knows cars with you if you can.

I just updated the miles search near me to all.
All 2018 OFF ROADS. Out of 227 only one was listed under $25,000.

134k - $24.980
104k - $26,000
94k - $26,995

Then it jumps to $27,856.

Someone might have gotten desperate and they got it cheap or they got lucky and scored it at auction cheap.

I'd say do a search near you.
There's a 2018 OFF ROAD on cars.com for $27,996 with 68k miles.
Personally I'd pay a little more for half the miles. No reason particularly.

CARFAX! well worth the money. even so, look it over really good for signs of new paint, etc.
it takes a little while for insurance claims to hit carfax. my son bought a car a year ago that had a clean report, but when i finally saw it 3 months later it had signs of body repair. he ran the report again and it showed a side impact accident 2 weeks before he bought it.
i'm always suspicious of a "good deal".
