Well, the 2024 was hoping to be a great year for all Tacoma owners and buyers.
So far this is what I am getting from the people I have talked to, ...... was it too much of a change????

  • The cost is 20 to 30% more than expected it's a lot of money for a truck with what it offers.
  • Engine type is even more limited to the trim model; the manual transmission can only be had in 3 trims with the lowest powered engine (no hybrid or core for you).
*NO V6 - is a big subject, no one wants to run a 4 cyl turbo hoping it will hold up to the V6 dependability. (yeah we heard the 4 cyl is "proven" in passenger car stories)
* Of course, the bad words, ...... NEW MODEL here come the bugs! (we know its going to be guinea pig season for a couple of years)
*More plastic parts, smaller gas tank, (this comes with change......... some dont like this much change)
* Of course, the new suspension this was hoping to be a great improvement, ...... we are still waiting on the applause here.
Plus now vendors are chasing the wheel to make suspension parts that are going to feed the markets needs for lifts and mods........ and make them dependable.

Bottom line, Toyota may have presented a new model.
However, they have made major changes to the history of the proven success with the Tacoma.
Years of improving the Tacoma over the past for the user has now turned to satisfying the regulations of the future.

Your 1st 2nd and 3rd generation truck value has just increased 20 to 30%. Congratulations!

Well, I have a slightly different perspective. I drive a 2022 TRD Off Road. I took it in for service yesterday, bad radio, and while I waited for them to decide they had to order a new radio, I walked around and looked at the new trucks. To be honest, I really like the styling. They look great. I also love the new interior in regards to the console and etc. My '22 is loaded with moon roof, leather interior, etc. To me, the new model's upholstery looks cheap. All they had on the lot had the cloth interior and it just looked cheap to me. I like the leather in my '22 much better. I guess the upgrade is what they call Softtex. Haven't seen it but can't imagine liking fake leather as much as real leather. Another thing, the center display that shows MPH and etc. could be better. The MPH reading is much smaller. I do have some vision issues and love the large MPH display on the '22 model. The biggest thing of course is the engine. I just haven'been able to wrap my head around that turbo 4 yet. I'm absolutely not interested in the hybrid model. I know that the HP is on par with our 6 cylinders and it's supposed to be smoother and better shifting with the new transmission but I'm not unhappy with the power and shifting of m,y '22. It will be at least two or three years before we can even start to judge how that new engine does over the long term. All that being said, out of curiosity, I still had them work me up a deal on a trade. They offered me 33,000 for my 18,000 mile 22 model. Just for the heck of it, I got an offer from Carvana and they offered me 36,800. So trading it in would be a non starter. Even with the tax savings of trading it in, I would come out two or three thousand ahead by taking Carvana's offer. The fact is though, I felt like I would be trading down. The '24 TRD Off Road with the moonroof is approximately 51,000 with moonroof but without their premium package. So I would be giving up my leather interior for the cheap looking cloth. Giving up; my pretty much proven 6 cylinder for the unproven Turbo 4. To get the premium package with the softex seats, larger Multimedia screen, etc. would take the price up to about 57,000.00. Heck, I owe just over 12,000 on my '22 model and will probably pay it off this year.

i love the looks. i love that they did away with the rear drum brakes. i love that you can get coil springs in the back. i love that the frame is fully box. did i say i loved the looks?

So they "fixed" a bunch of things I'm not crazy about on my '23 OR, but they "broke" the most important thing: the engine.
no way will i buy a hybrid. no way will i buy one with a turbo 4 cylinder. the upcoming change was the only reason i sold my FJ when i did. i had figured it's successor would be a Tundra, then they dropped the V8 so that was out. when they proudly announced they were dropping the Tacoma V6 I figured '23 was my last chance to get a decent truck.

Well heck, after saying that I wouldn't, I ended up trading for a new 2024 yesterday; There are just a lot of things that I love about the new ones. My only hesitation was longevity of the new motor but decided to give it a try. It has plenty of power and seems quiter and more responsive than the 6 cylinder but dependability will just have to be a wait and see thing. I bought another TRD Off Road that probably has about every option available. Premium Offf Road package, Softex heated and cooled seats, moonroof, etc. I really like the huge 14" screen and a lot of the other new features. Now we wait and see.
