Toyota announced 2021 Tacoma will be available in "Trail edition" which appears to be an SR5 with some special badging, a Limited grille, and TRD OR wheels only black.

They also show the bed of the truck to have much bigger storage compartments that can work as coolers

This is pretty cool but definitely takes up a good bit of an already small truck bed. I'm sure some people would rather have regular bed space

Toyota is also releasing a "Nightshade Edition" similar to what they currently offer on 4Runners and a few other vehicles. These appear to be basically the Limited trim with blacked out features

What do you guys think? Do you see a value in Toyota offering different editions or do you think its just a clever way of replacing chrome with black badging and charging more?

I've seen a few 4Runners at my local Toyota dealership in the Nightshade and they do look awesome... it makes sense for them to offer it on their other body-on-frame vehicles too
I am with you on this. I took a look at a Nightshade at the dealership (I forgot whether it was the 4Runner or the Highlander) and just getting into the vehicle was a different experience, literally like night and day. It was murdered out black.

I didn’t know about this until I just read your post, so thank you for sharing it here.

The cooler idea is interesting — at least they’re trying to spice it up. It does obviously make you lose more of an already small bed but there are probably people that don’t need the bed for much more than their basic camping/fishing/hunting gear and will love having the storage/coolers.

Not sure what all the differences would be for the black one. Maybe it will also have a unique looking interior. It says black leather but it would be cool if it had no chrome and other differences.

I feel like toyota could learn so much from the overlanding/offroading community and come up with some wicked ideas that people would actually love. Trail edition seems a little misleading here ?‍♂️

For example, a local shop where I live started building trucks for a Toyota dealership in town. This truck will be available through the dealer...

I watched this last night, sounds like the cooler/storage compartments are removable
