• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

PSA: Check Your Trans Fluid Level

Shops also only see the failures. So TCCN might say what he says about not changing fluid because he's seen the failures correlated to it. But he doesn't see instances where there are no failures, and has no idea how many of those there might be. He could be seeing 1% or 99% and there's no way...

PSA: Check Your Trans Fluid Level

TBH I'm dubious about most of the things that guys says. He may be right, but maybe not. For me he doesn't exude credibility just because he has a lot of long videos with tons of views. Either way, my truck has 100k and benefited from the drain and fill. -M

PSA: Check Your Trans Fluid Level

Just drain from the transmission. I didn’t go deeper than that yet, though I’d consider a more regular regime of that. Once a year maybe.

PSA: Check Your Trans Fluid Level

TL;DR If you hate the Tacoma transmission, it might be under-filled. I have a 2017 TRDOR with the 6-speed Auto 100k Miles, 2" lift 285/70 R17 tires. It has always had the common transmission issues of downshifting early and holding the lower gear FOR EVER going up hills. Hunting for gears...

    Cv axles

Bad seal. Also, the outer bearing. Check and see if there is a lot of play in the CV at the axle. If so, get the ECGS bushing and seal replacement kit. TIP: If you have trouble getting the removal tool to fit, grind it down a bit on the back side so that it will fit. The one I used would not...

    Timbren vs Sumo Spring

I made a video with more info and thought and detail about bump stops than anyone should put into the topic. But in the process, I did a detailed comparison between Timbren Active Off-Road Bump Stops and Sumo Springs. Source: https://youtu.be/a-pyOaKsY3c?si=k4MLqv5jDdedZg9H I did a...

    Lowering my '23 Tacoma 2WD

There have to be custom coil springs available to swap in. Or maybe a strut from a different application. Or maybe custom springs. Same for the rear. Custom lowering springs.

    Rear disc brake conversion

Does your transmission work? Even with disc brakes, you shouldn't be riding the brakes down a mountain pass. I towed my camp trailer over Sonora pass and it did just fine.

    Transmission fluid mess

It's also possible you ran through a puddle of someone else's tranny fluid. IS there any in front of the tranny?
