Hello my name is hunter houser and I have several Toyota’s and have owned 6 Tacoma’s total, currently I have an 06 double cab short bed trd off road 4.0 6mt, a 1989 pickup project with 9 inches of lift on 35s with a 5 speed trans and 22re, and I daily drive a 17 Tacoma trd sport double cab shortbed, it is a 6mt with the 2grfks. 47,000 miles on the dot. Here are my current mods on my 3rd gen.
Suspension:
-6 inch bds kit on it with fox 2.5’s up front with remote resi’s and dsc adjustment
-fox 2.0’s in the rear with remote resi’s and compression adjusters.
-sitting on method race wheels wrapped in 35/12.50/18 milestar patagonias (which are highly underrated tires IMO)
Drivetrain:
- tuned with ovtune’s vf tuning software (currently running “2.0 super fob octane learn” with modifications to throttle maps, intake valve timing map, and throttle/ignition efficiency maps, and lastly rpm limit set to 7000)
-2.25 in true duals down pipe back with a dual in dual out turbo muffler, secondary cats deleted.
- “custom” cold air intake pulling from behind the grill in front of the rad of course.
Next on the list is alcan rear leaf pack with 6 inches of lift to get rid of the crappy rear blocks and oem springs that have sagged tremendously. (Literally only 1 3/4 inch of up travel until I’m on bumpstop) I’m positive I’m forgetting things, will update if anything comes to mind.
My trucks are FAR from babied, so whatever mods I recommend be confident that they will take abuse, high speed rough terrain/jumps etc the truck has seen a lot on a pretty regular basis and will continue to in the future.
