Thuds are not normal. Drive line should not be clunking during shifting procedure.
High idle (1000-1250RPM) after a cold start is normal, it's to warm up the catalytic converters quickly.

I'm 54 miles from I81, 42ish miles from I99, 50ish to I80, 58ish to I83..... I can get to Philly in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Pittsburgh in about 3 hours. The NY border on I81 in just under 4 hours. I used to drive up to Binghamton NY at 1:30AM to push a reset button...
Had a short day at work so I finally changed the oil. I definitely like the aluminum filter cap over the stock plastic. Sucks that I still have to jack up the truck to drain the pan out, I was hoping I had enough clearance.... Oh well.
